He is a lovely boy! I don't know if I personally would change his name. That's what they have heard being called all their lives. I've never rescued a pet so I don't know if I would change their name or not. I guess I would change it if the name was not good/did not fit him at all. I kinda like the name Mr. Wrinkles.... I love his eyes....

So as you read in my previous post I "rescued" a 5 year old fixed male. Actually removed him from a horrid home environment. Antibiotics are starting to kick in and his ears although filthy, not quite as red. I will flush them real good when ear infections clear up. Hot spot drying up a little, and cyst between toes looks a little better. 4 days of meds and 4 doses of coconut oil, and a good food change is starting to help. He still stinks BAD, but will wait and bathe him this weekend. He's had a lot of new things happen in a short period of time. Poor Guy!

So anyways. let's get to my question. Mr Wrinkles is 5, he will be 6, Nov. 1st. I absolutely HATE his name, and since he has a new life, I want to re-name him. Do you think at his age he would adjust and learn??? I've been kind of calling him Roger, which I don't love but its close to Wrinkles and he responds. I think the new name should start with an R.... So any suggestions??? Or should I not even do it?

This poor boy just sits and stares at me, no matter where I go in the house he just stares at me. The picture I am about to post is last weekend when I went to pick him up. Poor thing has his chin on my console and just stared at me the whole way home. He can be sound asleep and if I move he will sit up and just stare at me. He was sucking his Lions nose last night and just stared at me. He is such a sweet heart and I already know adores me and Joe. But the staring is really sad, it's like he's waiting to get the rug pulled out from under him again. Which will NEVER happen again! This is the pitiful picture I took in my car the day I picked him up to come to his forever home.

Well said and exactly what I would have said GO FOR IT
He looks at you that way because he is thanking you as we all are for taking him home , I bet in time you will see other ways he will thank you as his love builds for you, These guys are one of the most loving breeds I have seen and there is nothing stupid about them , he is wonderful .

[MENTION=900]KMARINO[/MENTION] Thank you many times over for your kindness for that poor fella'. I changed my rescue's name,and it didn't hurt him a bit. You could even call him RogerWrinkles, and in a little while drop the wrinkles(wish I could!) Mine only respond part of the time anyway-when I call them! Can't wait to see how handsome he will be when he comes out of his sad shell. I hope you will keep us posted!

Or you can save yourself the trouble of always saying "oh", like oh no! Just change it to Orion.

Hi, I agree with others, it's fine to change his name and he will respond to any name as long as he's loved. Thank You for rescuing him and giving him a new loving forever home. His eye colouring is stunning, and you should call him Frank ( as in Old Blue Eyes), or have you ever watched the Mobster movie Mickey Blue Eyes? with James Caan and Hugh Grant?
Mickey Blue eyes would be a cool name too, and would go well with Vegas, since they are both Casino names. Other names I like are Jack, Lucky, Ocean, or Texas (Texas Hold em).

ROGER THAT! we have lots of nicknames that evolve for our bullies and the response is always positive. your voice and intonation should be what big Rog responds to stick with one new name though, and always associate it with loves!
