Our one English bulldog is constantly having issues with infections and allergies. I need all the recommendations to help her, we are currently looking for a new vet who understands bulldogs better. Her recent issues are redness around eyes which is new, and skin irritating with bald spots again. Her nose is so dry and cracked but its tough to treat it and not aggravate her wrinkles. Along with itchy ears. She's on prescription hydrolized protein food & apoquel but is still miserable. It seems we get one area treated then something else comes up. Please give me all the recommendations to help this poor miserable girl. She is constantly hiding and chomping the air while being itchy. We hate to see her miserable like that.

I use Vaseline on Jeffo's nose, I have no idea about the prescription food or medication that your girl is on. Although I do know food especially Kibble can cause skin problems, with Bullies, And a raw diet can help a great deal. I really hope another member comes along soon, with more help, Good Luck!

Thank you for the response! I will start trying that!

Have you thought to ask for a referral, to see a specialist in skin allergies, its with you saying, you are looking for a new Vet. When did all this start? and what food was she on?

ā€œShe's on prescription hydrolized protein food & apoquelā€

Yes, what’s the food? I presume it’s Royal Canine? That’s probably why she’s having trouble. Most prescription hydrolized kibble is usually Royal Canine, Science Hill and why it’s important to stay away from them 2 kibbles. Also do add anything made from Purina and Iams. If you’re also giving Apoquel add 2 tablespoons of fermented sauerkraut or yogurt cause apoquel destroys the gut flora. It brings down the immune system. You need to build it back up. That’s why she’s all red. Best is a raw diet. She wouldn’t have skin issues.

Ouch, poor girl! Food and/or environment can be the issue.

If you can, switch to raw food and a cooling proteins, duck, turkey or a white fish…. Where are you located? As that help members give suggestions

From what it sounds like there isnt a specialist around us at all and the one vet we wanted to get into isnt taking new clients 😭 she started having those issues about 1 year ago and overtime it got worse. She is on prescription Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein food. But we are wondering what else could be fed. Maybe switch that up?

I like that idea, North Dakota United States. We don't have a lot of options around us but hopefully enough! Any suggestions on brands?

That Is great info, thank you. We will try that. Yes Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Food. We've been wanting to get away from that brand but don't know what to switch too. We arent sure what she's allergic to. But we believe its mainly environmental.

We will definitely ask next time, there are not a lot of options around us so that makes it tough. About 1 year ago when the snow started to melt so started having some of these symptoms. Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Food. But from the sound of it we really need to try something else. Just unsure of what.

My first port of call would be Raw diet, and another Vet/specialist. As other members have said, sack the kibble(y) Good Luck!

If willing to go raw.. I’ll find the link, but there is a place in Denver that ships across country that I know a few French bulldog owners that say it really helped them
