That's very uncharacteristic for him. He's been doing very well on Apoquel and rarely ever scratches. Knowing how quickly a waxy dirty ear can turn into something nasty he got a thorough ear cleaning and yes, his right ear was ready for maintenance. All is good now. I encourage everyone to watch out for the signs of dirty ears...scratching and head shaking. I wish that our boy Kash had been so lucky as to have regular ear maintenance. He came home from surgery today after bilateral Total Ear Canal Ablation. Recovery will be several weeks. He's really doing quite well although he looks to be a mess. Doc says he's probably had a headache for the past...who know how long...maybe years!

Awwwwa poor baby. I just want to hug him till he feels better. :hug2:

What a trooper to have endure all that.

Poor baby. I hope he feels better soon. We had that done with one of our Ridgebacks years ago and it made a world of difference with him. It was like he was a whole new pup.

OMG that poor boy... I hope that he feels better soon!!!

Funny you should say that...it IS like he's a whole new pup and he's only 3 days out of surgery. He's more alert, more interested in being around us, moving more quickly, and his eyes are more open. I even saw him wag his little nub of a tail just this AM, another first.

So happy he finally got relief, sweet baby! I just want to hug him, but I know he's in the best of care!

So happy he is with you all and getting back to health! Will he be able to hear or was there any damage to the ear drum?

My boy Woody had the shaking of his head. A deep cleaning with H2O2 seemed to clear it all up.

As far as I know the drum and complete ear canal are removed. He does, however, respond to our calling so he can hear something. I would guess it's not very clear. Hand gesture training forthcoming.

Ellie and I are glad you are feeling better Kash!!

I hope he's feeling much better. Great advice, thank you [emoji4]
