[h=3]My Story[/h]Chicago English Bulldog Rescue volunteers drove down south to rescue Stone and 14 other bulldogs living in a puppy mill. At 8 years old, Stone is one of the oldest. Stone’s foster parents think Stone is also the very sweetest and most lovable! Stone came into rescue in pretty sad shape. He had infected pressure sores on his knees and elbows as well as infected gums and rotten, broken teeth. Stone had intestinal parasites and was covered in urine and excrement. He was pretty overweight, too, at 72 lbs., but when your life is just living in a cage, you don’t have much chance to get exercise. And Stone has lived his whole life in a cage, like all puppy mill dogs. So Stone is now learning about living life as a TRUE English Bulldog – eating premium foods, getting bathed regularly, enjoying a nice backyard and stopping traffic with his super-duper good looks as he walks down the street. Stone is crate-trained, but he does not exactly love his crate and he will let you know it, too, loud and clear! Stone likes being outside in the yard, investigating his surroundings. He is low-energy, so if you are looking for a bullie to play fetch with or tug, look elsewhere! Stoney really is happiest when he is in the room with you, preferably next to him, rubbing his ears and his hind end and any place in between! Ear rubs and kisses and gentle handling are welcome activities to Stoney. Although Stone is not “officially” housebroken, he has been pretty good at holding it when crated at night and even out of the crate as long as he gets plenty of potty breaks. What Stone needs is a very strict eating and potty break regimen, and he is sure to be accident-free in the house. Stone is a sweetheart who needs a home with little or no stairs due to his arthritis. A family with older kids would be best because Stoney is older himself and is pretty slow-moving. His perfect family will have a good understanding of acclimating a mill dog into a home. Stone is not interested in toys, but that may come with time. He loves his food, but he is currently on a “diet” to shed some pounds, so his new family must be committed to help him get into and stay in tip-top shape. Even though Stone has had a very hard life, he is a giant teddy bear and should be treated like one, with as much snuggling and kissing as he can get.
