What poop bags do you use?

sisters3 i love these bags! Only ones we use. Except I've never tried the handle ones haha.

We only do walks, don't have a yard where he just goes and we do cleanup later. But i would probably still use them, feel much better about them being biodegradable if they're going straight for a landfill. Any time i use a grocery bag, i pick the one with a hole -_-

You MUST try the ones with the handles, much easier to tie...on the go. SAME....I always seem to find the bag with the hole when I use grocery bags :)

Do they come in rolls that you can put into the little dispenser? Maybe I'll give em a try next :D

Not sure if they come in a roll, I don't use the dispenser that hooks on the leash, I just tie 2 of them on the leash handle at all times, so I have back up :)

That's why I use the side of the holey bag without the hole to pick up the poop, twist up the bag, and then stick in another bag. I always double bag. That way if he goes more than once you throw all those bags into the same bag and prevent stuff from getting out.

Watch the biodegradable bags! I once had a bag left in a pocket of a coat that I hadn't worn in a while. It started to disintegrate in the pocket. It was bright pink. Every time I put my hand in the pocket, little flecks of pink plastic would fly out--all over whatever or whoever was near where I was standing! It was so embarrassing! I would say, "Where is that coming from?"

ChrisRN OH great point!! I won't forget it! I stuff bags everywhere!!!! Thanks!!

Food Lion, Kroger, Harris Teeter, Whole Foods...haven't tried the Trader Joes bags yet.

Food Lion bags are the worst...they're a lot like Walmart bags except with holes in the bottom. Capacity 4 lbs.
Kroger bags are bit more sturdy and have few if any holes...Capacity 5-6 lbs.
Harris Teeter bags are on par with Kroger...probably because Kroger owns Harris Teeter...Capacity 5-6 lbs.
Whole Foods has superior bags as of last year(the last time I visited there) and we save them for special occasions. I've filled them nearly to the handles...so much so that tying them off was a chore...Capacity 15+ lbs.
The above statement begs the question, "How does one accumulate enough nuggets to completely fill a plastic grocery bag?"
Well, let me tell you...
7 Bulldogs x 2Poops @ (3/4 lb. each) x 2 Days = 21 lbs. When a day gets skipped due to time constraints or bad weather those Whole Foods bags come in handy.

And for you math Wizs...
If a Bulldog and a half can make a pound and a half(of poop) in a day and a half, how much poop can 7 Bulldogs make in 6 days?

Chip, Chip,Chip... I'm not a math wiz but here goes... if 7 bulldogs produce 21 lbs in 2 days, then in 6 days said bulldogs will produce 63 lbs. I know the equation has something to do with common denominators but I just did it on my fingers. I thought this might be a trick question so I googled it and came up with conflicting statistics... and a lot of porn. There are some real sickos out there. The most scholarly article I could find was from the "Watershed Protection Techniques Journal" published in 1999 which states that dogs poop (they called it "unit discharge" in the article... I bet those Watershed Protection people are a real hoot at parties...) about .32 lbs/day. Interestingly, it also states that humans poop .35 lbs/day. I assume there is some standard deviation that factors in, but really, at the end of the day, not a big deal. So there you have it... as for me, I'm a double bagger, grocery bags all the way. :walk:

Hmmm...I imagine that they, the "WPT Journal studiers" are working with average dog/poop size/weight. Of course a Chijuajua will likely produce but a few ounces and a Saint Bernard could eclipse a pound. I think Bulldogs are probably on the higher side of the median scale. Even then, Bulldogs could have their own scale what with the broad difference in size/weight within the breed.
Yes, "interestingly"... if I eat 2.0 lbs per day and only discharge .35 lbs that means that I should weigh...
a lot more than I do now.
Thankfully, their study is flawed. :grill:

BTW, the correct answer is a lot lower...

  the things we learn here....

I was looking into more earth friendly poo bags. Any recommendations? Fezzik has fairly large poops so I need a bag mouth big enough not to get it on my hands.

Yep. Bentley says, "It takes two hands to hold a whopper!"

Glad you are earth friendly; however, we sometimes use the plastic bag the newspaper comes in.

Chip! Don't keep us in suspense!!! What IS the correct answer???

Only this group...lol. I actually purchased something like 1800 bags two years ago on ebay for around $65 if I remember correctly. They work well. Once Bella is done potty training I won't really need them. The brats have a play area fenced off on the yard and I usually use a scooper and a small metal garbage can with a garbage bag. Makes me feel a bit better that I am not using too many bags. For now since we are still getting accidents with Bella I am using the rest of the bags.

If a Bulldog and a half can make a pound and a half(of poop) in a day and a half then it's accurate to say that 1 Bulldog will make 1 lb in that same day and a half. There are 4 "day and halfs" in 6 days. And since we have 7 Bulldogs...

1 lb x 4 "day and halfs" x 7 Bulldogs = 28 lbs.

That right there is a Whole Foods bag full. And, FWIW, I'm convinced that a Bulldog and a half can, in fact, make a lb. and a half in a day and a half. I have come to this conclusion by very unscientific means...simple hands-on experience.
Tomorrows lesson will be on loogy flinging; horizontal and vertical launch, acceleration, trajectory, frictional drag, inertia, spatter, hydration...come prepared kids!
