Need the EB experts help/recommendations on what to use or not use.

Losing our “big mean boy,” Howard Duke, after 13 amazing years has left a huge hole in our hearts. .We recently welcomed a new baby boy into the family, Gus Wayne, and while we’re so excited, all of the recommendations online have my brain on overload!

I figured I’d come to the one place where people truly understand English Bulldogs and love them as much as we do.

A few questions:
• Thoughts on slow-feeder water bowls? Gus is a gulper and drinks like he’s been stranded in the desert.
• What are your favorite chew toys? He’s currently using a Nylabone.
• What are your thoughts on bully sticks? Do you recommend using a bully stick holder?

And finally…what are your “must-have” English Bulldog recommendations? Things you wish you had known when you brought your bulldog home?

Hi, and welcome to the Forum. Sorry for your loss, I bet you have loads of great memories over 13yrs. First I have never seen a slow water feeder, just put less water in the bowl, I assume you feed Kibble, could be why he drinks that way, although Bulldogs are renowned for inhaling food and water. Toys For Jeffo, its only genuine Kong. Not got a clue what Bully sticks are, I never give Jeffo anything like that, because he will try and just swallow them, I use marrow bones. I think this goes for any new pup/dog, patience, and training, he fits in with you not the other way around. So many mistakes are made by not setting the boundaries from day one. Start young, less hassle later. Great looking Pup. Good luck!

Freya is a food and water inhaler too
I found a slow feeder is good for her, especially the puzzle types as it’s good stimulation as well as better for her stomach.
The water feeders I gave up on unfortunately she didn’t get the hang of drinking slower and she struggled with it. I found putting less down at a time helped, bullys do seem to drink more than other breeds maybe it’s to do with not being able to regulate their body temperature and possibly their throats due to the breathing issues, they’re just a wild guess though.
One thing that did slow her down was taking some of her food ration such as vegetables or a little fruit to put in her water , even kibble sometimes..she still ate it lol , I did this mostly on the rare occasions she was alone and needed more water leaving.

Less water in the bowl is all I could think of …. No on bully sticks, they stink and are a potential choking hazard. I use raw marrow bones.

One other thing… if you are willing and can.. feed raw. If not and going with a kibble, go high quality… Open Farm, Acana, Orijen, Zingature… stay away from chicken, try turkey or duck

Absolutely! Raw is the food

Wanting to do raw but I’m looking for recipes and recipes I can trust. Right now feeding Zignature.

I bought this water bowl for my German Shepherd cause she drinks like a cow. My 2 previous bullies also drank out of it and no spills anywhere and they drank normally. There’s now some in stainless steel. I never had issues with this one and that’s in Canadian Dollars. Less expensive in U.S. I too feed raw diet and only raw marrow bones. A good list of higher quality kibbles, Christine mentioned them. But raw is better. Or add raw pieces of beef liver as a kibble topper. 1/4 cup 2x a day .
