Bulldog adoption in the U.K.

I’m seriously considering adopting a new bulldog, I’m in the U.K. in West Yorkshire and I’ve signed up with some reputable dog rescues.
I’m prepared to consider other breeds if it’s a good match but wrongly or rightly it’s bulldogs who are my real passion and have most experience with.
I also love other bull breeds.
Does anyone know of any bulldog rescues that’s known to be reputable? Rather than just relying on google. I don’t have transport so the Leeds area in West Yorkshire would be best for me.i have a friend who will happily take me elsewhere when she can but she works awkward shifts, is currently setting up her own business and is also a single mum of two neuro diverse teenage girls! As you can imagine she doesn’t have much spare time to taxi me around.

Though as an aside, i feel like I’m betraying Freya. I would give anything to have her back home but it’s just not possible. Even if or when I get a move it wouldn’t be fair to uproot her again even if it is with me. I don’t want to in all honesty but I have to put her needs first.
But I’m really struggling without her, it’s affecting my mental health especially and my social anxiety, on top of that I don’t feel safe anymore here. Having a bf by my side 24/7 would be a huge blessing and a comfort for me.
Hopefully it will also help a dog who deserves a good loving home and human. I know I can give that to him/her.

No, this time I will not let the neighbours or anyone else dictate to me. I’ve really thought seriously and considered various possibilities but I don’t think the original trouble causers would even attempt to try it again. Even if they did it’s highly unlikely they would be believed a second time around. The police soon saw things for what they were, even the one who closed the file. They didn’t take any of the accusations made seriously and closed the file straightaway.
Unfortunately the ones who put me on the wanted by the police website knew nothing about any of it other than someone had claimed she was a pitbull, strangely enough when the police told her they weren’t taking anything further that’s when she claimed Freya was a pitbull and produced a photo of just me instead of the photo of me and Freya who while taller and wider chested than an English bulldog looks nothing like a pitbull.
It’s a little bit worrying when it comes to the police and one hand doesn’t know what the others doing!

im registered with them, i went to see the dogs last week. I wanted to bring them all home
There was an American bully who was absolutely beautiful , the description of her personality was too. But she was having a meet and greet the same day.
The others of various breeds wouldn’t have made good matches, mostly because I have little grandchildren.
I keep checking the Leeds sites, I’m also registered with the local rspca.
I was hoping for a bulldog rescue near me as they probably have much more knowledge of their particular breeds, also they’re still stigma dogs and often abandoned, so the more who get adopted and the rescuers helped the better

I don’t have instagram but I used the name you gave and came across their website. There’s an Olde Tyme called Poppy I’ve applied for and they want someone experienced with her breed so you never know. My very first dog , a staffy who I fostered for 6 months was called Poppy too!

Agree. Yes, I follow them on Facebook too. They are in Yorkshire. I know they are very picky about who they adopt to, which is a very good thing where EB's are concerned.

I agree, unfortunately too many people are still breeding and buying them for the wrong reasons. The bad press they get because of it really annoys me. My parents aren’t dog lovers but dogs such as bulldogs they are convinced are vicious child killers and attack anything that moves. Even though they know none of mine have ever bitten any living thing. Although I’m not sure about a squirrels chances if Freya ever got her nashers around one

I havnt found a match on there yet I keep checking. But there’s a possibility of a beautiful American bully x called vanity , from another charity.

Her owner died recently and I’ve spoken with the charity she sounds a lovely girl with a very affectionate personality and a goofy side. They want to be careful who they home her with naturally but can she she’s starting to struggle in the kennels.
They are going to do the home . I told them that my garden is a good sized but unenclosed. I have a recall training lead which I somehow with lots of knots and things got it so Freya could get about 4 inches before the pavement.
I was always in control of the lead and never left her alone. It’s not dogs I don’t trust, it’s humans, fence or no fence.

So wish me luck I’m hoping we’re a good match. Although I still feel as though I’m betraying Freya somehow.

I told them recently I was going to hopefully be adopting a dog and the housing manager was fine and just reminded me to get permission first which I already knew.
She contacted me because the neighbours had reported Freya as living with me! Obviously she can’t because I rehomed her and would need to request permission again. The council are fully aware of all the facts now and are actively helping me, they wouldn’t prevent me from having Freya back.
They now know everything and i gave the contact details of the police officers involved. So they’ve been able to check everything out and finally believe me!
It’s been a heartbreaking decision to make but I’ve decided not to bring her home although there’s nothing I’d love more.
But I have to put her first, she spent the first ten months of her life in a crate, a lead trapped in the front door 3 times a day for her to toilet. That was her start in life.
Then a time with a rescue place before coming home with me and being settled for nearly 14 months.
Then she was rehomed again with my friend who thankfully she has a strong bond with and had spent time and the odd night here and there which helped her settle quite quickly.

To unsettle her again would be cruel, she’s only 25 months old. But the major reason is twice someone attempted to poison her and I’m absolutely not willing to take that risk with her.

Thankyou, you must all be sick of my woes by now sorry, but it’s looking like this adoption won’t happen. It’s a shame because other than the charity owner checking out the pictures which was more a formality it was a foregone conclusion.
We’d had a really good chat on the phone particularly about bullies and bull breeds and Freya who I’d told her had elbow dysplasia and food allergies, she asked which vets I’d used so I automatically said vets 4pets.
She’d said she would get back to me after a few days I heard nothing but I do know the small run charities are busy.
After another look on her website I noticed they do checks with your vets too!
It’s been over a week now, I’ve left a voicemail but heard nothing back. I’m hoping I’m worrying over nothing but the whole situation has been completely out of hand and with Vets 4 pets involvement I’m worried it’s going to mess this up for me too just when things were starting to look up.
I have never been in a situation like I have these past months and I don’t know anyone else who has either. All this because my neighbours have a hatred of bull dogs and are spiteful gossips.
Even the police, wardens here and now the housing manager are all disgusted, unfortunately their hands are tied.
