Heartbroken.

I don’t have my princess Freya with me anymore she’s alive and well but now lives my friend.
I live in a small retirement community in a very small town. Most of the neighbours loved Freya and knew what breed she was although some were convinced she was a staffy!
Recently one of my neighbours dog was killed by one of the residents nephews pitbull (a banned breed in the U.K.) he comes from a completely different area to where I live.
Some stupid gossip started rumours that Freya was a pitbull and killed the neighbours dog. Someone actually took our picture on the sly and posted it on a local facebook group along with my name and address warning people of us!
Of course Facebook being Facebook a couple of people jumped on it saying Freya had attacked them. Freya has never attacked anyone or any animal. She is dog reactive but has never attacked one.
I wasn’t aware of anything until I was stopped on a walk with her and both of us were threatened by some random stranger with pepper spray.
A friend of mine in the meantime had seen the post and screenshot it. I was followed home by a man , I asked him why and he said to make sure that effing dog didn’t kill anyone . I told him he was intimidating me he just said tough. Freya was of course very alert and tense watching him . I told him she is protective of me, that she wouldn’t hurt him but she would warn him off. Then I got accused of threatening him with my dog. I’ve been warned away from the local town as people are “after me” I can’t even go to my local shops, some of the shopkeepers are part of those “after me”
I contacted the police and they have everything filed and I have a crime number but unless anything such as physical harm or damage to property comes from it and I can prove it there’s nothing more I can do.
Since then the local council have informed me (I live in a council bungalow) I can’t have Freya live here. I’ve had the police visit to check she isn’t a banned breed. I am absolutely devastated, my mental health is suffering. The only good thing , if it can be called that , out of all this nightmare is Freya has a really good bond with my friend and she’s the only person i would ever trust her with. I still get to see her some days. But it’s not the same, im completely lost without her, i havnt stopped crying for the last two weeks. I’m crying now just writing this.
Sorry for the long moan, I just need to get it out there to people who know just how precious our babies are and they are not some vicious stigma breed like they’re made out to be.

Because all the neighbours apart from a few believe it. They’ve defended me and Freya and love Freya to bits but the rest are more interested in a nice bit of juicy gossip. Gossip that they don’t even realise the damage and hurt they’ve caused.
They’re currently happily gossiping and gloating that my vicious dog killing pitbull has been euthanised! They’re in for a surprise when the weathers a little cooler because Freya’s coming to mine so I can spend time with her and take her for a walk.
I honestly never knew just how far reaching and damaging a bit of nasty gossip can do! I keep saying it but I’m absolutely devestated, I’m so lost without her.

Edited: sorry Lennie do you mean the resident whose nephews dog was responsible? If you do he’s a lovely and very sweet old guy but he’s a little doddery and naive I don’t think he even understands what happened, he’s convinced Freya is a labrador bless him.

It sounds like you have some real vindictive neighbours, I would let all this die down before you bring Freya back, even for a visit. The only reason I say this, is you don't want any more problems with the Council, were dogs are concerned they will not give you a second chance Donna. Sack the emotions and think very carefully about the situation, and your home. Good luck!

Humans can be the most destructive species of themselves. My son had 2 rescue pit bulls. One passed away about 2yrs ago at the age of 15. He has Sable left with Mick the German Shepherd who’s 8. Sable is about 14 now. They are the most beautiful, friendly big babies I’ve ever seen. I’m sorry you have to go through this. It’s definitely not right. Like Lennie mentioned, revise your own situation and your home first.

I’ve stayed away from here as I’m really struggling without Freya and I’m devastated, I can’t stop crying all the time.
Since I last posted more has happened. I spoke with a different lady from the council who was really understanding and sympathetic ( she has a bully herself) I asked about Freya being allowed to visit, she told me nothings in place to stop that bit because most of the residents are elderly and vulnerable and if someone reported seeing her and she believed they would she would have to base her actions on that. I understand that and to be honest I think it’s a good thing really as most circumstances aren’t like mine.
My son sent me a picture from the Evening post, there’s a picture of me on the wanted by the police section! For being in possession of a dangerous banned dog! I’ve already had two officers come and check that she isn’t and they could see that straight away. I contacted the police yet again , they’ve told me that along with my nasty neighbour giving my name and address on the facebook post one of Freya’s vets sent a pm giving my full details to the person who hid behind the screen name of (something) kangaroo!
I asked the officer I spoke to how this had happened when I was the one making the complaints and have the crime numbers along with the officers who came and checked her breed. She said the different officers won’t have seen each other’s files and because I’ve never been in trouble they don’t have a picture of me in the system and they place it in the wanted section of their site and the local papers!
I now have to wait to be “invited voluntarily “ to go to the police station for an interview then the officers dealing with my complaints side and the one dealing with the wanted side of it will come to a desicion if I should be charged.

You just can’t make this stuff up!
My life is a complete mess I’m back to struggling with depression and anxiety, I can’t go anywhere I’m living behind closed blinds and to top it off a couple of weeks after I found all the sliced mushrooms in my garden I now have lots of dodgy small brown mushrooms growing . I’ve never had them before so now I’m getting paranoid did someone want to poison Freya? That’s the only garden we used to go in.

I’m sorry i didn’t mean to blurt this all out but apart from my friend everyone else is convinced all bull breeds are vicious child killers so i have no one to talk to and no one who truly understands how devastated i am or what our dogs really are not the stupid stigma they’re given.

Thankyou Lennie and thankyou for making it all the way to the end of my post! It was meant to be an update originally until it started pouring out.

The lady at the council was really understanding but what she meant by saying if anyone reports Freya was here she’d have to take into account their concerns due to their age and some with vulnerability’s. Not all of us are retirement age.
In other words i would then be officially given a notice to keep Freya away and also means like you said the council never give second chances in regards to dogs and though I don’t want one at this time I’ll never be able to have a dog again in council properties .
I’m hoping to do a house swap to the village I’m from, if I do I can have Freya home with me it’s a different council area and the housing officer said it wouldn’t be a problem, just apply for permission as usual.

I’m completely shocked about the vets, I can understand them feeling a professional need to contact the police but giving my name address and phone number to someone hiding behind some silly screen name on a local facebook group?
I find that extremely unprofessional. They’re a large nationwide business and won’t feel any difference but I will never ever use them or spend any money at their connected store anymore and neither will anyone else I know!

I’m with you regarding dogs being individuals. Any dog can suddenly turn usually there’s a reason behind it, but I still believe it’s the owner not the dog that causes any problems and all the dodgy breeders.
Unfortunately there’s always the minority who just wants a “status “ dog because of what they can train it to do just to make themselves feel big and tough.
Talk about small dog syndrome more like small person syndrome!

I worked at a dog daycare for four years and some of the worst dogs were Chihuahuas absolutely vicious at times there were two that came in and had to be kept in crates because if we went anywhere near them, they would try to bite you. There was only one person on staff that the dogs allowed to handle them and feed them.

We had pitbull’s Rottweilers Doberman’s mastiffs, Corso’s that were all big babies and loved on everyone…. Chihuahuas just nasty little dogs.

So sorry you have to go through all that. Yes, humans are their worst enemy. I got rid of FB, Instagram years ago. Was more for my business. I also had one for personal. All got rid of them! I sure don’t miss it either.

Me too because of all the cr@p like this that goes on. I already knew it had been on Facebook thanks to the woman who threatened me with pepper spray and then my friend showed me the screenshot she’d taken.
I’m on the wanted by the police website for being in possession of a banned dog for gods sake!
The police have seen her they seen her kc certificate as soon as they saw her they immediately said that’s no banned dog. But because they put nothing on file I’m now a possible criminal! I’m 55 never committed a crime in my life and now I’m freaking out imagining myself in striped pajamas!

I tell a lie, I once tried to steal a packet of crisps when I was 10 after a friend dared me..needless to say it didn’t end well

Jut to add, stay away from vets 4 pets! I recently learnt from the police a staff member saw the Facebook post and private messaged the poster after recognising me and Freya and gave my details! To do that they must have accessed the files at work which is illegal and a serious breach of private data.
I waiting for a phone call from the police today to get the persons name and position in the company as I’m am going to report them .
