Well, the time has come for Maximus to be scheduled for Entropion surgery on his (L) eye. The problem I'm having is who should do the surgery. My own Vet can do the surgery, or the surgery can be done by Maximus' Opthomologist. The real issue here is one of Cost.
My Vet would charge $800.00, and the Opthomologist would charge $1800.00. Since finances are very tight, I'm in a quandry over who should do the surgery. My Vet has done Entropion surgery before, and my gut feeling is that $1800.00 is just downright expensive for surgery on one eye. I'm struggling with this and need some feedback so was hoping some of my friends here could brain-storm with me
over this ........

Thanks.....:)

We had the choice when Brutus had to have surgery not to allow our vet to do it and to have the speicalist at Tinton Falls Hospt do the surgery. We chose to ahve the specilist do it becasue they have more experience then a regualr vet. I love our vet and they are amazing but when it comes to surgery I prefer specilist with something so serious.. If it were me I would reccomend the speicilist esp since its his eyes. Good luck with everything

$800-1,800 for ONE eye!?! Yikes! Audrey is getting
BOTH eyes fixed this fall as well as her spay and microchip and even with the IV fluids, pre-op bloodwork, pain meds, and antibiotics it will be $900. But we arent oon the east coast (where it seems many things are expensive). We live in St. Louis, MO and the hospital where Audrey will have all this done at is a large 20 doctor emergency and general hospital (try see SO many patients that they can charge less for procedures then a smaller et).

Its so true things are more expensive here! I spoke to 3 people who had the same surgery as Brutus and all paid under 1500 and we paid 3200...It was worth it as the specialists at our hospital are amazing!

Crazy pricing. Here they charged me 300 for both eyes. But Im in Southeast MO 120 miles south of St Louis

If your regular vet says he has done these surgery's ask him how many and if he had any bad results? it is a $1000 difference.
It's not about who's done the most, it's about enough experience that Maximus isn't the Guinea pig and you feel comfortable enough to have him do it. Then go with it.
Just my 2 cents

Maximus. I had an ophthalmologist do BOTH of Chunk's eyes for about $900. He was recommended to me by Dr. Kinnear (he's a highly respected bulldog vet in Staten Island if you haven't heard of him). His eyes look GREAT and this dr was absolutely wonderful. He's an older guy and you can tell he just loves the bullies. I could give you his info if you'd like .... He's in Medford, NJ ... Not sure how far that is from you.

My Bulldog Apollo has been diagnosed with Entropian. I would love the Ophtamologist you used in Medford as that is not too far from me.

@Chunksmama hasn't posted in a few months. Just in case she doesn't see this, you can contact Richmond Valley Animal Hospital (it's where Dr. Kinnear used to work, he's now retired) and ask them which Ophthalmologist in Medford they recommend.

Ophthalmologist... I've had bad experiences with non-board certified vets doing procedures that just ending up having to be redone. As far as the cost, cash is king, see if you can do payments, or see if you can at least get some follow-up appointments thrown in. "Worst" case, at least the surgery should be done correctly. Good luck...

Sorry to jump in here but I may be able to help. Chunksmama and I used the same Ophthalmologist in Medford! NJ. His name is Dr. James Clinton, Animal Eye Clinic, 204 Medford Mt Holly Rd., Medford, NJ. 08055. Phone is 609 654 0300.

Dr. Clinton is still Lucy's Ophthalmologist and we see him 2 to 3 times a year for check ups.

Good luch.

Thanks LucysMum! Sorry guys I get on here so infrequently anymore! I do see the tags in my email so that prompts me. Dr Clinton was awesome. Chunks eyes have been perfect ever since!!!
