Stanlee
Hey guys, I'm sorry I post with so many random things about stanlee it's just that I'm a new mommy and I'm just unsure at this point on what to do.

When I first got stanlee he was ok but I noticed hair loss and very red skin,my bulldog specialist vet said that most white bulldogs had pink skin and the hair loss was Stan shedding his puppy coat,I was relieved but after a few more weeks it just did not seem right to me. It was a Sunday when I saw him in the sunlight and decided I was comfortable just leaving him looking like that and I took him somewhere for a second opinion, turned out to be demodectic mange which I just finished treating him with the ivermicin and 2 baths a week. He couldn't handle the shampoo and started getting scabs and bleeding pretty bad, which I was told were the mites coming up,then upon reading about the shampoo it clearly states to discontinue use if skin irritation occurs. I stopped using the shampoo and my vet gave me hylyte a different one.

So stanlee had started to look a lot better and he went in for a second scrape and no sign of mites. Tonight he threw up a little bit and then I noticed another spot where he is bleeding today and he's just so red in the eyes and face area.

This is all very devastating for me because stanlee is all I've got and I don't want him to be in any pain or uncomfortable or even worse for his health to be at risk.

My my bulldog specialist is not a bad guy but I feel like he sees stanlee and assumes everything is fine and if I tell him something might be wrong he dismisses it. I'm just so unsure about how to handle this and give him the life he deserves.

How old is he? I would maybe be concerned that he also has allergies.

It could be that your vet may consider the problems your facing to be "just a bulldog", but it also important to identify the root cause of the problems, instead of just medicating the problems.

Aww, it's hard when our babies isn't well:( I'm also thinking some kind of allergy? It seems like white bulldogs tend to be more sensitive:unsure: Maybe a different kind of food would sort his problems out. I'm currently busy switching our dogs to a different food as Bennie (white male bulldog) sometimes gets burstings in his skin that starts to bleed. In his case it's a bacteria that a specific bird here in South Africa carries and dogs can get it if their immune system isn't strong enough:( He doesn't have any burstings right now as I bath him with a special shampoo but like desertskybulldogs says it's better to find a permanent solution than to medicate the problem:) What is Stanlee eating?

It's sad your vet doesn't have more sympathy for your worries, it comes across as a bit arrogant to me:mellow:

He is on a grain free gluten free diet. I feed him nature variety instinct, venison flavor. He gets fresh apples and frozen green beans as treats but he has been eating an authority chicken banana treat and the ingredients are just the chicken and banana.

Cut the treats for a few weeks and see if you can see any improvement ,if not try amd change the food ,it could also be environmental allergies -and allergy teat would show what hes allergic too -i hope your boy feels better soon xx
You be surprised what they can be allergic to

His food seems really good:) but I guess he can still be allergic to something in it:unsure: I have no experience in doing allergy tests on dogs but I've done one myself and that wasn't a big deal so there should be good tests for dogs too that can show IF he is allergic to anything... so you don't have to guess and change things for nothing. I know banana can give humans an itchy mouth and I've read of dogs on here not doing well on chicken. It can also be detergent or something else in his surroundings. Shame, I hope he feels better soon<3

Maybe the food or the treats, bathe him in Dawn the original Dawn, make sure to rinse off the shampoo completely Take him to get more tests done, Please let us know how Stanlee is doing. Praying for Stanlee. Susan Moore

Where are you in CO.? I think you need to find a new vet to get a second opinion.... If you are OK telling us the town you are in/near someone may be able to give you a recommendation

Ya I would get a second opinion, especially if no vet has mentioned allergies yet. Did they rule out allergies? Geno had bald patches for awhile in his early years, food change fixed it. Good luck to you.

HI there. So sorry you're going through this. Where in Colorado are you at? I have an excellent vet, a bulldog specialist, that's off of Holly & Arapahoe. Homestead Animal Hospital, Dr. Geiselhardt.

I agree with everyone here. It could be food. I have a 98 % white EB and he has been suffering dog food allergy for a long time. The challenge of finding the right food for him has been a long journey. Having a white bully, their allergies are more evident. I had tried the NVI but I found that the protein was too high for him and he was gassy. Maybe start looking for another brand of food.

Thank you to everyone for the advice! Stanlee does go to dr g Jeanie! Haha :)

Wow small world then. I really like Dr. G but with food he's like any other vet, they just don't know what's out there that's better. I had a talk with him about foods a couple years back. But I also think his office staff is rude and short at times. You should put a call into Dr. G and let him know that you took Stanley for a second opinion and what the other vet diagnosed him with - personally I think he needs to know that.

The white hair does shed more but I don't think it's more prone to hair loss? Who's your other vet? I always like to keep my options open and there has been a few times I thought of switching, mainly cause he's hard to get into. He sure is nice though.

So sorry you're going through all of this with your baby. I, too, have an EB that's 95% white. He's has many many issues in his 4 short years of life The environmental allergy test is nothing more than drawing blood. My Bodie is allergic to ALL grasses, dust & storage mites! You know, 3 things that I can do very little about! The only way to know if its a food allergy is by a food trial, 12 weeks of a special food that contains a protein that your bully has never eaten before, i.e. buffalo, kangaroo, lamb, etc...and NO treats or even toys that have a flavor. After the 12 weeks, if his skin has cleared, along w/possible antibiotics, he is given a small amount of the food that he originally was eating, if he flares up, then it's one or more of the ingredients in that food! But then it comes down to, which ingredient?!? That's why a very limited ingredient food is best to begin with. I have heard that chicken and beef, grains, have some of the highest reports of allergies in canines. With my Bodie, it's been and will continue to be a lifelong battle his skin will clear up after a 6 week round of antibiotics, he'll be clear and beautiful for a month or less and then, BAM, 12 spots will appear, then the next thing you know he'll be covered in sores. We've actually been to many specialists, dermatologists, even NC State vets, he's been put on Atopica, which is cyclosporine modified, which he didn't respond to at all, $150 a month! I really do hope you can find out what is wrong with Stanlee, and I pray that it isn't allergies because its a battle, a very expensive battle, and a very heartbreaking battle when you try to give your EB the best life possible and end up being helpless.

Poor Bodie! I'm so happy that Bodie has a mom that's willing to do whatever it takes to keep him healthy. I guess at the end of the day our boys are just lucky to have us and we are lucky to have them. It really touches me how much everyone loves their bullies it's nice to have so many people to relate to.
