Here in US vets tend to get $$ from those companies that they recommend and sell in their offices and in most case vets have no time for nutritional knowledge and just recommend what they sell.

Here in the US and Canada... RC is all fillers and very little meat/protein. Is the ingredients list different in UK?

You know what, I think the ingredient list might actually differ. I seem to remember that the RC hypoallergenic version here is different from the US one. Anyway, [MENTION=18442]Vhoas[/MENTION] if RC suits Lola, why not try it again? It's considered good here too by vets and lots of dogs seem to do very well on RC. Our Castor was on the hypoallergenic version some years ago when his vet suspected food allergy, but Castor didn't want to eat it so we gave up after some months. Thereafter we tried raw (didn't really work) and now he's on Acana Lamb which is the best food he's ever tried. He's had that for, perhaps, two years now. I'm interested in trying Acana duck but our local shops don't carry it. It does exist, though; it's one of their single protein bags (light brown in colour, I think).

Just checking if I missed something - has she actually been diagnosed with something? Staph infection? Castor sometimes scratches himself raw and we wash with chlorehexidine (diluted and shampoo) and I also found a thing to spray on that stops the itchiness.

Poor Lola - I hope going back to her old diet will give her some relief!

I am not a fan of RC either but I am also of the opinion you need to do what is right for you and your dog. Aside from food, any chance it could be environmental allergies? My Frenchie used to scratch himself raw and I went though a million different foods trying everything but come to find out he is allergic to grass and everything that is green outside.

She hasn’t being diagnosed with anything.
The first vet visit the vet wasn’t sure what it was so gave us some tablets and a shampoo.
The shampoo made it worse and she smelt horrible. Was almost like the shampoo
had burnt her.

The second visit she had steroids. Obviously they worked a treat.
Everything cleared up but as soon as she came off of them her skin went bad again.

Third time was during the small period where the skin had healed and the vet suggested we chNge her
diet.

Fourth visit we were told about fishmongers finest.

At first the food helped. Her skin went a light pink instead of a sore red.

But last night her neck looked horrible. She has a horrible bald patch and a bloody scab.
I’ve given it a clean and applied sudacrem which is working.

I’m sticking to RC for now to see if it works.

She might have a slight allergy to grass but only during the summer. She will start scratching.
Nothing else has changed. My girlfriend did start using a new cleaning product for the hardwood floor but
Lola was kept behind the stair gate and the floor was completely dry before she
was allowed back in. We haven’t used it for a few weeks.

On the food from the vets she would try and cough something up. Like phylum.
And her stomach would rumble like it was upset.

Last night on RC she was absolutely fine. She played with her ball all night.
She did wake me up scratching during the night but does that from time to time anyway.

No new cut marks this morning either.

Put her back on what you know works and see how it goes for 6 weeks. We have seen mis/un-diagnosed staph infections get out of control and take months to correct.
Pics would be helpful...lots of pics...back, belly, butt, neck, feet, shoulders, etc. How are the ears? Eyes?
Raging Staph infections can leave the coat looking mottled, some areas scaly with thin hair, other areas bare, and still other areas where the hair is soft, thick, and fuzzy.

Quick update.

I managed to get an appointment with a bulldog specialist for Wednesday.

Lola has been eating Royal Canin for the last few days and she's loving it. Never seen her so excited to have a bowl full of food.

She is still scratching every now and then, but her skin looks to be slowly improving. Obviously it's going to take a few weeks to see any difference but so far so good.
She seem's a lot happier, playing more, sleeping better and she's not gagging or coughing like she was on the food the vet's have recommended.

She has a stinky face, and tear stains starting to develop but she went through this when she first started on RC.

Hoping all goes well at the specialist on Wednesday

We adopted Dak and the rescuer said she uses Zignature Kangaroo blend. It's expensive but it's very healthy for him.
