10 week puppy - skin issues

Hi everyone,

I am a owner of a 7 year old English bulldog and most recently a 10 week English bulldog named Bowser.

We got Bowser 2 weeks ago, upon arriving home we noticed some small bumps under his armpits which then spread to his chest. They started off scabby, some red, and some just feeling bumpy.

We took him to the vet. They did a skin scrape which showed nothing. They put him on antibiotics just in case, did a mite protocol just in case, and gave us medicated shampoo. Some of the bumps aren’t super inflamed anymore but he’s still losing more and more hair/thinning everyday.

He eats royal canine food per the vet. House is super clean, and has had minimal exposure to public places as we were told to wait until this next round of shots.

He’s super energetic, stool sample came back fine, and appears healthy.

But his coat and skin is taking a beating. Any advice? Is there hope his coat will grow back? We didn’t experience this with our adult dog as a puppy. Feeling pretty lost . I have attached some pictures.

Never fails, if you do a research in the search box on skin issues, guaranteed Royal Canin, Science Hill, Iams, anything Purina makes will be mentioned.

Vets gets a kickback on Royal Canin, Science Hill. Stop using them brands. It’s full of grains and fillers. Get the little guy on a higher quality kibbles like Acana, Origen, Zignature, Open Farm and even better a raw diet. If not possible, add 1/4cup of raw liver as a topper on the kibbles. Antibiotics will destroy any dogs gut flora. He won’t be able to rebuild if he’s on it. Your vet did the test and can’t find anything. It’s your food.

He’s absolutely beautiful!

Add some raw, get his gut back on track. And if your vet says it’s not the food, change vets.

Absolutely! Vets are on a win win. Raw is deffo the way to go. Great little pup, put some photo's in the gallery. I'm in the UK, no idea about raw suppliers in the US. I'm sure he will be fine, once he is of that Royal Canin. Keep in touch with updates on the little guy.

Both good but…..I like beef cause it has more nutrients. It’s a ruminant animal. Example, sheep, deer, moose etc….It’s cleaner than a one stomach animal.

My dog Newman just turned 3 in July, he's never had the first skin problem or allergy..When I brought him home for the first year and half he was on open farm's which he did great. After researching I wanted a food with no synthetic vitamins you want the food to provide all the nutrients, I switched him to carna4 and never looked back it's air dried which means it doesn't have all the nutrients cooked out and single source human grade protein. I also add raised right gently cooked as a topper along with bone broth and goats milk. If it says royal canine or Purina it's garbage!

What a cutie…….

When it comes to skin issues, no matter what, it always falls on what a dog eats. Yes definitely you can get allergies which will end up again on the diet. A puppy of 10weeks or under 3 months old, rarely gets health problems. They’re still on mom’s milk that protects them for months. They’re basically protected. If they do have issues as we older members seen throughout the yrs on this forum, I can safety as, 75% of the time we see these dogs are on either Royal Canin, Science Hill or anything from Purina, Iams, Walmart brand etc.

If people want to own EB, it’s a breed that will need more maintenance and higher quality food. I totally understand not everyone can afford high quality food and raw isn’t for everyone either. At least use a raw topper as I’ve mentioned above. Every bit counts.

The most important thing is all puppies should be introduced ONE Protein at a time so their bodies get use to it cause they’re still have moms milk to protect them. I always gave chicken as pups. One month rotation is my moto. Chicken, then duck, then lamb, then beef etc…why none of my dogs now or previous ever had allergies. Seriously, zero. Takes longer to build them up but after they’ve really a yr old, they’re set for life.

One more thing, if you get your dogs vaccinated, make sure you split up the vaccines. Some vets will give everything in one shot and often dogs get reaction and not good ones.
