Hi everyone,Raven is now 5 months
and she's been diagnosed with pulmonic stenosis
they recommend surgery, the prognosis depends on severity and is highly variable
the cost is $3500 -$5000 depends on the case
I have Trupanion insurance and I still don't know if I'm cover or not
I have to travel to WSU
( 7 hours away from my house ) if not more
I spoke to the breeder and she told me to bring her back and she will give me another puppy
but I love my puppy ,this is the second time this happen to me with this breeder,
before Raven I bough a french bull dog from her that had a brain tumor and to tell u the truth I'm terrified to go trough this again
the question here is
Do u think I'm doing the right thing ?
Has anyone been through this?
I thought she was healthy !
Thanks
Karla

There are varying degrees of PS. If it is a mild case, your dog can live a normal life, without surgery. The vet discovers it by hearing a murmur. Is your dog passing out,
and has difficulty with energy levels? Have they done an echocardiagram to see how things look. You need to look into the prognosis-how bad the murmur is, and the
chances of the outcome if you have the surgery done. Many years ago, I had a 3 month old tiny toy poodle. She had the surgery at the University of Tn. Knoxville.
She went into heart failure before the surgery, and they had to wait a few days until they could do the surgery. They said she was the tiniest one that had ever done the
surgery to. She was in hosp. for a week after surgery-and they had assistants sleeping in with her at night to keep her calm. At that time, the surgery cost us $1000.
She lived to be 13, at 10 she had congestive heart failure, and lived another 3 years on meds.
You are the only one who can make the decision for your baby. I would also take her to another good vet for a second opinion before you make a decision. If nothing has
been noted before on the vet records concerning the heart, or a murmur, your pet insurance should help. Best wishes for you. What ever decision you make, will be understood by others,so do what YOU think you need to do. Best wishes and prayers for you in your decision.

I have no experience and will tag a few members that have some insight for you

Oh Karla...this is so unfair and sad, I'm very sorry
you lost your Frenchie and now facing the unknown
& possible surgery with Raven just 5 short months
later ;(

Yes, get a 2nd opinion then go from there, have you
contacted your insurance yet?

Praying for Raven & you...sending big hugs!

One of my pups had a grade 3 heart murmur, surgery was done but could not be corrected. He is still doing great with daily meds. As manydogs stated, it will highly depend on the severity of the heart problem.

What I cannot understand is how the pup came to you with this problem, it should have been diagnosed long before it was time for you to take home. I would steer clear of that breeder, because either they did not have the pup checked by a vet before coming home or they knew about the problem and let you take your pup home anyway. Either way, scum bag! UGH, I am sooooo sorry you are going through this!

I would fear that the breeder would put Raven to sleep if you take her back.

Hi Bullmama,
That's my biggest fear!
if I bring her back to her she'll put her to sleep
my appointment is on September 22 ,so hopefully Raven will be ok
I'm waiting on the insurance pre-approval;
all I need right now is prayers for my girl
thanks a lot

Sending prayers and positive thoughts to Raven and you. She is an absolute sweetie. I hope that it is low severity and something that she can live with a long time with the right meds.
