General Question Winston sees the Eye Specialists tomorrow...

We are headed to the eye specialists tomorrow for a consult concerning Winston's Entropion issues…

I'm kinda nervous because I don't really know what to expect, and I'm really hoping that we can put off the surgery till after the holidays. My hubby will be gone for a month on a temp job, and I would like to wait until he gets back home.

Is there anything I should ask them tomorrow? And I know I've seen on several threads about certain anesthesia that should be used on bulldogs specifically… what is the best option?!! As always Thanks for the help, I would be LOST w/out you guys!!!

I don't know what kind of anesthesia was used with Blue, but I remember being told that bullies need to come out of it very slowly, (not sure what that means really) with someone standing over and watching them for any signs of distress even when they wake up. Like literally staring at them for a while..lol..

If it's anything like Cherry eye surgery, the aftercare is fairly simple. Cone of shame, and eye drops. They also gave us an anti-anxiety medications to be given every 12 hours, or as needed. We only used the drug now and then as he mostly slept.

Hi tracey, Petunia had entropion surgery and I think it all depends on how bad it is. You may be able to wait you may not because you risk damaging Winston's cornea. I scheduled it two weeks out and now Petunia has chronic dry eye in that eye--which the vet said might happen because she had a cherry eye in the same eye. Now, Samson ALSO had it done and no problems with dry eye but he did not have a cherry eye so I don;t know if that made a difference or not.

I'll cross my fingers for the best outcome! Poor little guy...it has to be irritating as hell.

The eyes are soooo tricky. Entropion could always be secondary to swelling, and can come and go depending on the swelling of the eye. If you can never see the inner eyelid, then it's a bad case. Also sometimes the more wrinkles in the face the more likely to have entropion. Also, as their heads grow in the 2nd and 3rd year and their wrinkles continue to change, it is not uncommon for it to show up even at the age of three, or if they do have it, it can go away on it's own as the skull changes.

I would personally evaluate the severity of his case over a month or two with using lubricating eye drops and look at his eyes daily. For anesthesia, on an eye surgery, typical protocol would be propofol and isoflourane.

Here is an example of the inner eyelid lining showing very nicely. I remember I use to line that part of my eye with eyeliner back in the 80's and 90's LOL
