Yesterday, Rex and Sandy visited with our surgical specialist for his soft palate eval. Rex is scheduled for soft palate surgery next Friday, June 15th. While they were there, the eye specialist was treating/evaluating a rather nasty bulldog. The dog was fine until it came time to treat him...then he would bite bite bite. Sandy said that he was going to be fitted or re-fitted with implants, episcleral cyclosporine implants to remedy his chronic dry eye...because he would not allow anyone to give him drops. Seems like a great candidate for this type of treatment...a treatment I had never heard of.

This could be a Godsend for some owners, and very interesting.

Very interesting !!! Fortunately my dog lets me put in eye drops so not an issue for her.

Wow.. totally cool and a great option

This video talks about dry eye and corneal neuralgia after laser eye surgery in humans https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E3iHlkyV2g
If you fast forward to 21 min for about half a minute, they talk about treatments to regrow nerves in eye and relieve the dry eye with treatments such as eye drops from pts own blood, contact lenses from a human placenta, and scleral contact lenses filled with fluid. Time is of an essence, as treatment only helps early in pts condition.
