Hi there-

Regarding a food trial on Taste of the Wild Venison and Bison. There are other ingredients in that formula such as lamb and chicken meal. Both are the 3rd and 4th ingredients which means there's quite a bit of both. You will never find out if it's a food allergy with this kibble.
A true elimination diet consists of starting with a protein your dog's never been on, seeing how it's tolerated, then adding one thing at a time and watching for an allergic reaction so you can pinpoint what exactly is causing it.
Your vet should be able to start you off on a true elimination diet.

Also, regarding your vet- RUN. Seriously, just run. If they haven't been able to help thus far, then they just can't. You need a dermatologist.

A dermatologist vet only treats skin conditions, and they should be board certified, just like a human dermatologist. One of mine has terrible allergies. We had his regular vet do an allergy test and it came
back that he wasn't allergic to anything. We both knew it was wrong but she pretty much just shrugged her shoulders and continued to give him steroids.

I had enough and made an appointment with a dermatologist vet. She did the test again and this time, the results made sense. We have him on immunotherapy now.

When your regular vet can't figure out the problem, you need to get to a specialist. There are specialists in every area of veterinary medicine, just like there are in human medicine.
Please find one.

That's really good to hear. Dog dermatologists can do things that regular vets can't and really zero in on what the issue is.

I spoke with our vet again today, and I picked up Phytovet PSS Antiseborrheic Shampoo and more Gentaspray. She also talked about Manuka honey as a topical treatment but does not know much about and will do more research and get back to me. She said she is going to contact a dog dermatologist about Marty's condition, someone she has reached out to in the past. This dog dermatologist is in Madison, there is another in Milwaukee (which are equally 2 hours away) but I told her I would like a consult to go see this dermatologist she is talking with in Madison. I'm hoping to get a call soon :(

keep us posted as to how things progress, but Ellie gave you great info on the allergy testing and process of elimination for determing the food problems.
