Roxie is home...

I picked Roxie up this morning and brought her home… normally she is super excited to see me, but this time she looked right thru me ALL she is doing at home is pacing, not eating or drinking. I talked to the vet, she said not to panic she was well hydrated there so give her time. We are still waiting on biopsy results...

I had a LONG talk w/my vet, and I think we are pretty sure what is going on here. She has a brain tumor It's the ONLY thing that explains her behavior lately. Cushings dogs have tumors and sometimes they are located in the brain… malignant or not. IF her biopsy comes up positive for lymphoma then depending on what stage she is at we can consider chemo, and that would attack the tumor in her brain. If the biopsy is negative, that means that something else is going on (or it still could be a brain tumor). She would have to send up to a specialist at that point… an MRI would confirm tumors, but she told me that would cost 2K. I'm not concerned about the cost, I have the funds for it… I just don't know if it would change the outcome.

I'm so heartbroken… I just can't believe this is happening to my girl. She was doing SO well just a few months ago, and I was so positive that we were going to be able to handle the cushings/thyroid issues. I'm just praying for a miracle at this point…

Tracey, I am so sorry. When you get the results-you will have to decide what would be the best thing for Roxie, at her age-not you.I have had a feeling about Roxie, from day one and was hoping I was wrong.One night Moose, my Malanois would not eat-he never refused his food. I took him to the vet, the next day-asked that he do x-rays.
The massive tumors he had shocked everyone-he had never shown a sign.I had a German Shepherd who had a brain tumor.I have had to make so many excruciatingly painful decisions-even for my husband. I only want to say this because I know how the hurt is-but we have got to do the best for the suffering one-though it is the worst for us. We know you have been through so much pain and you have a lot of support in whatever choice you have to make, because everyone loves and sticks with you, as you do for everyone. @ddnene

Thanks Lynn… I know that deep in my heart I felt that something was terribly wrong from the get-go. I'm prepared to do whatever is best for my girl, even at the sake of major heartbreak for me I'm so sorry for your losses… I guess what makes these times bearable is the support from those who have been there.

Oh Tracey, I'm so sorry. I have been where you are with several of my boxers and I know how painful this is. I know when my Lily was sick (she was walking with one of her back legs pointed in and losing bowel and bladder control) and we still didn't know what was wrong with her, our options were just to wait and see or to do an MRI to find out exactly what was wrong. We decided to go ahead and do the MRI which is how we found out she had a tumor inside of her spine. At that time, we decided to not have any further tests to find out what type of cancer it was, because it was inoperable no matter what kind it was. No treatment would have ever restored bowel or bladder control and she would continue to lose the use of her back legs. It's terrible having to make these decisions for our sweet babies, but I feel that's what we sign up for when we bring them into our families. Whatever you decide, my heart is with you. I know how you love Roxie and you're so lucky to have each other.

I remember your story about Lily… I'm so sorry, it's very upsetting to watch them suffer. I just wish that we knew exactly what was going on w/her… hopefully soon!!!
