Proper ear cleaning techniques!

Hi all,
I'm a relatively new mom to a 1.5 year old female english bulldog named Ollie.
I've been cleaning Ollie's ears regularly but lately she's been scratching at them a little so I'm thinking I'm not doing a great job.
Can someone fill me in on proper ear cleaning techniques?
