hello all!
looking for some advice or personal testimony to this post palate surgery. Long story short my english bulldog booger is a neutered male has had a lot of issues since very young of age. He had just had his nose surgery for the second time about 4 weeks ago with his palate surgery. he had to have his nares done again due to the first time they were done that they didnt use stitches and he was still not getting enough air. he had pneumonia last year that started all of this due to aspiration because of lack of air flow from his nose. it took us about 6 months to get rid of the pneumonia. he was ok for a few months then had hurt his back leg while walking down the stairs. we create rested him instead of surgery due to a lot of other health issues and also pneumonia. about January he had started this what seems to be sleep apnea episodes happening out of no where and they got progressively worse quickly. they had him off and on all types of meds trying to determine what it was. he eventually ended up on a different antahistamine and seemed to do well on it for a little while. then the apnea episodes started all over again which led to us having a consult about his palate. we were told previously by two vets that he didnt need it done and then one finally said he did need it done and also commented about the lack of air from his nose. so we went ahead to schedule it and it turned out he had pneumonia again! they did a wash to confirm and then started him on clavamox. he was only on the antibiotic for two weeks before his surgery. the surgeon was confident that the pneumonia would be gone or he would be healthy enough for surgery in two weeks. we felt very uneasy about it but trusted the surgeon who assured me they would reasses him with xrays prior to surgery to make sure it was safe. the surgery went well and he did pretty well the first week and was like a whole new dog by week two. about 4 days into that next week he sounded like the cough and little gagging he had was getting progressively worse. his tongue was turning blue when he was trying to hack up with everything he had and it was a big mucus ball. knowing how he was prior with previous pneumonia we didnt hesitate to bring him right into the emergency vet. they took xrays and told us they weren't concerned since the xrays looked pretty good and sent us home. the next day we were back again. he was acting weird lethargic could barely stand, seemed completely out of it. wouldn't eat drink and pee was dripping out of him. we rushed him back up to avets that morning and they decided to admit him but still a normal temperature. nose was very clogged with colored boogers inside and he was shaking everytime he breathed in. he was in oxygen for 2 full days and they said he was doing great and could go home because he wasn't hacking or coughing. we went to pick him up around mid night that night and soon as he came out he immediately started choking and hacking up mucus. it sounded like he was taking his last breath or gasping for air was how hard he was coughing. the technition assured me that he hadn't been doing that and that he just must do that when hes excited. that is not how he has ever acted. we sat there for about 30mins contemplating bringing him home but they said all he was doing in there was hooked up to iv's and was laying in a cage cause he didnt need the oxygen anymore. by that time he had been on another dose of clavamox for 3 days now. it is now 2 days post bringing him home and yesterday he did really well but today hes bad again and I'm just obivioisly scared for him and everytime he tries to cough up we have to reach in his mouth and help pull out mucus balls with also some food if he ate recently. he is eating boiled chicken and rice. they also have him on the antahistamine again because they feel it is allergies and pneumonia even though his xrays looked fine. just confused and frustrated with all vets and lack of knowledge it seems when it comes to this breed. please any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
