Hi there,
My English bulldog, George, recently turned 1 on August 2nd and weāre now looking at potential dates for his upcoming neutering in October. We took him to our vet for a consultation and they found he was a perfect candidate for palate surgery. It seemed a little odd as when they took him to the back for an additional palate consult, they only took 10 minutes with no bloodwork or x-rays and seemed definite in him needing the surgery. Some important information with regards to his consult, when George was around 7 months he had a very bad bout of aspiration pneumonia after aspirating some of his vomit that left him needing to be hospitalized for a few days. Now, theyāve withheld his neutering surgery until the palate surgery can be completed. Of course we want to do everything we can to ensure his comfortability and happiness at home, but with the additional surgery we would be looking at almost 10 grand for both the neutering and palate surgery to take place at the same time.
Ultimately, I want to know if the palate surgery is absolutely necessary. If possible Iād love to hear both sides, how was your bulldogās quality of life either with or without the surgery? Any responses will be most helpful and thank you all for your time.
