Hypospadias

Has anyone ever heard of this? My grandson Mason is having surgery tomorrow to correct this. They say it is pretty common in baby boys but I've never heard of it.

I googled it and found a lot about it but I'm still worried about the surgery

I'm not going to compare your grandson to our bulldog Hershey, but that is exactly what Hershey was born with.What is hypospadias?


"Hypospadias is a malformation that affects the urethral tube and the foreskin on a male's penis. The urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body. Hypospadias is a disorder in which the male urethral opening is not located at the tip of the penis. The urethral opening can be located anywhere along the urethra. Most commonly with hypospadias, the opening is located along the underside of the penis, near the tip."

from reading that site, it's actually not an uncommon 'defect' effecting 1 out of 150-300 males.

do you know if the surgery was long? I'm afraid of him being sedated at all, I hope that it won't take too long.

Bev..my heart will be right with you. My daughter just had a baby boy last Tuesday. I would be worried if he had a hangnail! I know your sweet boy will be ine. He has this bully nation in his corner...

I don't remember exactly how long but didn't seem too awful bad but we kept each other busy so she wouldn't dwell

Mason is home!

The surgery lasted an hour and a half but he is fine, sore but fine. Thanks everyone for your prayers and support
