It's stainless steel and sits up a bit in his Neater Feeder....thing has a tray underneath and a perforated area around the bowls that allows the water he constantly slops out of his water bowl to go into the tray, rather than all over the floor!

We use ceramic because they don't "travel" as much when she eats. But we also have stainless in a pinch.
