I went to visit a guy I have been dating for a while, this past weekend. I brought Jasper with me so he could get away from the house. To my surprise, he (not Jasper) asked me to sweep before I left! He has never asked this before, so I wasn't sure if he was serious or just joking. However, he was serious. Any thoughts?

Here is a cute picture of my boy.

Any guy (goes for women too) that’s interested in his relationship wouldn’t tell you to sweep the floor, Not rocket science here it’s ALL about him n NOT YOU!! You just got a ā€œpreviewā€œ of your future with him!!!. But hey, that’s me...BTW, I say it as it is.... And you did asked!!

Hmm... yeah that would be a buzzkill for me as well, LOVE me LOVE my dog... Lol

Needless to say, my head spun when I realized he was serious. I gathered my belongings and my sweet Jasper and got the heck out of there! To me, it is wrong on so many levels, but he felt justified. I let him know that was the final straw for me and I won't be back.

I agree but I probably would’ve gone the extra mile and gave Jasper and extra rub down to get as many little hair out as possible and then say, ā€œjust a little something to remember us by, enjoy your sweeping!ā€
Lol. Jerk.

What an awkward situation. Apparently, he's not used to dogs, and it also seems clear that he was now willing to make an effort to show you that he welcomed Jasper into his house. Unless he's terribly allergic (but then he wouldn't have let Jasper come, would he), I'm afraid this sounds like a sign that this guy may not be Mr Right for you. Could be that this was the first time he let a dog into his hourse and perhaps he is used to a meticulously dust-free house, but then, again, that is not an ideal guy for a woman with a dog.

I hope you will get an explanation to his behaviour because it sounds so weird!

cefe13, He lives in the country, not only on a dirt road, but has a gravel driveway as well. As I drove away, I was thinking I should have had him wash my car since it was visibly dirty.

Jasper was not the first dog to enter his house, as I have always had one of my bullies with me when I visit. That is the reason I was stunned. In addition, his adult daughters had been out to visit, on separate days with each of their dogs the weekend before. I asked if he had made them sweep, and he told me no!

Love all the answers! That is a good time to give him a sign-the one finger SALUTE!! As Tracey said-"love me, love my dog(s)". I guess he wanted to break up with you-and you were lucky! Your boy should have bitten him!:D

Good job!!!

I still can’t go over him saying ā€œSweep the floor!ā€ Knowing me I would of went to get his broom, start knocking things down! Opps..opps..opps..Then tell him he’ll need a vacuum! :D

I knew better than to stoop to his level. I felt like he was wanting to punish me for bringing Jasper when I came to visit. I advised him to date someone who does not have a dog.

It was nice of you to give him the advice. I wouldn’t have been that nice, he didn’t deserve it and you nor Jasper deserve to have been spoken to as if it was inconvenient to have brought your baby.

I always said our gut speaks to us. You followed yours & you did the right thing. Life’s too short, you’re worth more than that! :2thumbs:

If you were me, I'm not gonna walk... I'm gonna RUN! Get outta there!

Not that I mind sweeping... but I rather he sweep his own house because that's his responsibility. I have my own house to sweep. And because he asked me to sweep his house, it's a red flag that he might have a problem taking responsibility.

Mom of Tucker: ā€œI know just what to do with this broom...ā€
ā€œhimā€: ā€œoh yeah, what’s that?ā€
Mom of Tucker: ā€œbend over and I’ll show yaā€
