Well..... Harlea Bug is at it again. We noticed her squinting a bit out of the blue a few days ago so we got her in to the vet this morning and low and behold she has Distichiasis. The earliest appointment we could get her with the specialist for the surgical consult is next Monday, but in the mean time she will be getting drops in her eyes twice a day. According to her vet there were quite a few lashes in both eyes that they fell needs to be taken care of sooner rather than later so off we go.

get well soon.

When you see the specialist, check if just plucking the lashes is an option. When Castor had ingrowing eye lashes, an eye vet plucked them with a pair of tweezers. Castor just sat there like an angel - it was amazing to watch and made a huge differencefor him. He ended up not doing surgery.

These days he has dry eyes and needs daily eye drops, but the eye lashes problem has not come back.

Castor sends his best wishes to Harlea!

OH gosh... it seriously never ends!!! I agree about the plucking, I would do that if it's an option. Prayers for your sweet girl

Sending prayer and good thoughts for Harlea. Maybe she can get by with just a "plucking".

She sees the specialist on the 8th. I have to work so my wife is taking her but i will be sure she asks about plucking instead of the cryo surgery. I will keep everyone posted. I am surprised that this is an issue now as i would have thought we would have seen this several years ago.

MINI had this done in June of 2019. She's fine now. Harlea should be just fine too. GL, Harlea!

Todd,
Mimi RIP had 4 or 5 eye surgeries. They took care of most of the the eye lashes. She had a lot. For a few years after that, I would check for them every few weeks and pluck them out myself. Eventually they stopped growing back. She would just sit there when I plucked them. I think they learn that it makes them more comfortable. Hopefully your specialist will get them all but if not taking care of a few yourself now and then might be an option vs more surgeries.

Harlea saw the specialist last week and while she does have a bunch of lashes he said they were soft and wants to hold off on removing them for now. Either way we still have to put drops in her eyes twice a day now as her tear ducts are working as well as they should but she has stopped rubbing her face so we will see how it goes.

Sounds like good news and great that she doesn't rub her face. Could I ask what kinds of drops she's on? Castor gets cyclosporine drops twice a day.
