Jewel Is On Chemotherapy

Update August 16, 2019.

We took Jewel for a vet follow-up this afternoon. Her lesions are now spreading down her back. Our vet spent over an hour with us. Prior to our visit, we did some research on Jewel's meds. The Flagyl has some bad side effects that includes cutaneous vasculitis and symptoms of this are very similar to what Jewel has. We are discontinuing the Flagyl.

Tomorrow Jewel will have some punch biopsies performed that will be evaluated.

We will update as soon as more information is available.

Got Jewel from the vet. They shaved her down here back and did two biopsies. We will know more after the biopsies are evaluated. Picture below.

It is suspected the chemo and the rest of the meds are the culprit.

UPDATE August 23, 2019

Jewel's lesions are increasing by the day. On top of her head. One next to her eye, on her legs, and now on her belly. The culprit...prednisone. So [MENTION=9956]nubonics[/MENTION] just a heads up for Curly the Man.

The biopsies came back for Calcinosis Cutis. This is common in bullies we're told after long use of steroids. Jewel is still being tapered off of it at 5 mg every other day. We will be finished next week.

A dermatologist vet will need to see Jewel as this will be a long term treatment. I ordered DMSO (vet recommended) that will be applied daily and will make her breath wickedly stink. We will need to wear gloves applying this an will isolate her until the gel is absorbed.

Wow...is Jewel ever getting a work-over. I hope she gets better from those Pred sores in short order.
She's a trooper for sure!

[MENTION=11639]rjisaterp[/MENTION] That little gal is sure having a tough time(not to mention Mom and Dad,too) I hope the DMSO does the trick. It always kinda' had a garlic smell to me. As soon as you touch it, you can taste it! Still keeping her in prayer every day. Love to all.
