So, my older bully Bruno will be 2 in November. Since we have had him, we have had to take him the the emergency vet in the middle of the night b/c of breathing concerns. The first time happened when he was about 4 months old...the last time happened just a few weeks ago. Bruno had been asleep for a couple hours already, and he just got up, jumped off the bed, and just sat on the floor. I went over to him and he was shaking...he kept walking around all still. I checked his tongue and gums, both were still pink, so we waited for a bit. He threw up about 5 times...a bunch of foam and phlegm, and then one time a whole lot of food...recently eaten, digested, the whole bit. After about 45 minutes of shaking and vomiting, he was still shaking and sounded like he was having trouble breathing, so we took him in. He stayed overnight...they gave him fluids and said he did fine the whole night. So, we took him to our vet the next day and had them do x-rays of stomach and intestines and blood work. We wanted to figure out what was going on...why this has happened a couple times. We also wanted to do all of this because Bruno has had trouble putting weight on. Bruno is about 40 pounds, give or take...but he looks skinny...he has this big ol head, but you can see his ribs and spine. He is playful, doesn't act sickly, always eats his meals...we don't get it. We went the first year of his life trying to figure out why he was getting sick all the time...turned out he is allergic to every single protein except salmon. So, we put him on Fromm Salmon and Veg and he has been fine with that (it's been prob about 9 mos now). I know that b/c Fromm food is so full of nutrients, you should be sure not to feed too much. So we have been feeding Bruno 1/2 cup 3 times a day...we feed him 3 times a day cuz he has a pretty sensitive tummy. He still wasn't gaining any weight, so we started adding in 1/4 cup of white rice with every meal. We have been doing the food with rice for the last 2 mos now, and still no weight gain. So...we figured, do the tests so we can get some answers. Blood work came back amazing...perfectly healthy. X-rays showed good size heart. The only thing they could tell me is that the x-rays showed a lot of gas in the intestines.
So...I asked the vet what we should do. She just said to keep doing what we're doing with the food. Besides looking a little too thin, he looks perfectly healthy otherwise. (And I do trust this vet...we have gone through a few vets already, but have been pleased with this one).
So...I am giving you guys all of the information to see if anyone has any thoughts. Is he just a littler bully? Am I making too big a deal out of this? I am such a worrier...he is my baby. Let me know if you have any thoughts. Thanks!
