I won these Christmas pillows on a bulldog auction...I'm a sucker for bully auctions. Anyway how cool are these? But when I took them out of the box they all reek of cigarette smoke...really, really awful smelling! I thought they were new but obviously not...whoever had them before was a bully lover/chain smoker lol!
Do you think they can be thrown in the washing machine?

Those are very cute!

You should hand-wash them and maybe add some pure vinegar to the detergent. That may get the cigarette smoke out. Then air dry flat. Once dried, if the smell is still there, sprinkle w/baking soda as this will help get the smell out too.

If you must machine wash them, put it on cold water delicate cycle...i'm afraid of shrinkage!

These are very cute, too bad they smell of smoke. Do they have a removable cover that can be washed? Have you tried leaving them outside?, you could hang them on a clothes line with clothes pegs, or maybe they can be dry cleaned. What does the tag say about washing instructions?

If you wash them, cold water, use fabric softener, too, and no dryer. If pictures are painted on-may not work.

My wife doesn't understand bully auctions..the thought is in helping a rescue not in getting a bargain or your money's worth. She shakes her head when something comes in the mail and always asks "what did you pay for that?" My standard answer is a dollar more than the person who didn't win it. (She doesn't need to know lol)
Thanks for the suggestions..the covers don't come off and there aren't any tags..the pictures feel like decals..I'll try putting them outside first but that smell is ingrained..

Spray them with febreeze and let the air out outside for the entire day. I would not wash them. Gary is also on a need to know basis!

Oh man those are tooooo coooll!!! I am super jealous haha.
I second the dry cleaner. If that fails, giving them to me will make the smell go away. :D

I would place in the dry with dryer sheets on 'air dry' or fluff which both are just cool air

Lewis stopped asking a couple years ago

I have a steam option on my dryer, if you don't I bet the local dry cleaners could "steam" the smell out for you…

If you're able to do it, please let us know how.

I've tried everything, fabric sheets, baking soda, coffee beans, and nothing ever got the smell of smoke out entirely. We quit smoking over two years ago and I still have one leather jacket that stinks. I love it so keep hoping I can find a way to get the smell out.

Good luck.

Send them to me I'm a smoker and would never notice! LOL

My son works in fast food, his clothes reeked of grease. Found that putting a half cup of vinegar in the wash removed the smell by 90%, after a few more washes you could not smell the grease at all anymore.

If it was me I would try to soak in the sink with only vinegar so you don't have to worry about rinsing, and then air dry flat.

The other ideas sound good too!

 NOW can I ride your a$$ for smoking?!! The only thing you should be "smoking" is your work-outs… LMAO!!! OK off my soapbox, my hubby dips so it's no damn different...
