I had an item I won from an auction that also smelled like smoke. I'm super sensitive and it was making me gag (Non EBN auction) I did not febreeze it, but I did hang it in the garage.

For a year.

Just recently I discovered it and ....... it no longer smells. Do you have a tumble cycle or line dry cycle on your dryer? I would try the febreeze....dryer sheet and throw it in the "line dry" for a while.

It kind of annoys me because they're brown and the pic on the auction showed them bright white..money goes to the bullies so that's all that really matters in the end...
