Damit, I leave tomorrow for 6 days and tonight of all nights Vegas decides to start rubbing his A$$ all over the area rug!!!! He USUALLY goes every 5-6 weeks before he needs them done, and come to think of it, it has been!!! Pardon my ignorance, but am I supposed to clean anal glands??? How do you do that and how do you know when to do that? Since my dogs have been puppies, I have wiped their butts with baby wipes or after every stool. Am I supposed to do something else to keep the area clean..besides showers? They have never rubbed their butts on the carpet, so I am assuming I am doing a good job.

You are doing a great job!!! you will know if they need their anals done. scooting on the carpet is a very good indicator, unfortunately I have to have Vegas's professionaly done.

Many don't need it done but several do. If yours are not scooting them they are ok

Patty, your not ignorant I knew nothing about this at all until a few weeks ago when Ftse had Mucous in his poo and posted here and then it when I learnt about it I had never heard of it before so I must be Stupid and Ftse was not scooting or anything no signs whatsoever.

Ups! This is a one of the jobs i hate to do! I can lift Shy tail quite high to "have a better view and access" but Lilys not so much so i usually place her on a edge of the sofa so her back legs are hanging down so its easier for me ;-)))
