I have a dear friend who's bulldog got sprayed by a skunk... she has bathed him over and over... HE still smells, and she even had a company come to her home to clear out the odor w/enzyme cleaners. It didn't help either, they are going to have to come out again!!!

IF anyone has a recipe or ANY advice on how to get rid of skunk smell, please share... THANK YOU!!!

I have not tried this but worth a try.

Tomato juice and lots of it...is what I've been told. To the best of my knowledge, only time will get rid of the smell completely...and it takes a long time...weeks!
Or...what 1Chumly says to try.

Chumly got sprayed twice in two weeks, (he was a slow learner!) I tried the tomato juice and sorry to say it didn't help much at all.

Have to add, giving him the tomato juice bath was not fun. All was well until he decided to shake, the scene looked like something out of Psycho!

Try Scope mouthwash in a spray bottle.

I had an English lab that got sprayed once and I did the tomato sauce bath... it helped but it was really gross looking and it did not completely get the smell out... we soaked for a long time and the cleanup was ALOT!

This... It worked when one of my other pups got tagged on a hunting trip many years ago. It isn't perfect and it is mess. You could also try what the Humane society recommends.

LOL...I hope I never have to go through this!

Marine91 has a great recipe. I’ve know owners using that n seems it works. Don’t forget the rubber gloves n bucket :)

Also in essential oils I would try..

15 drops total essential oil:
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)
Peppermint (Mentha piperita)

use individually or blend 8 oz. gentle dog shampoo or a tablespoon of dawn dish soap
Mix together and shampoo away...

For to absorb the smell in the house, any oil that’s under evergreens like, cypress, pine or even eucalyptus n peppermint. A good 25 drops total essential oil to 1 oz. spritzer bottle then add water. Wonder if vinegar would absorb?

I will let her know... Thanks for all the help!!!

We had to do the peroxide, Dawn and baking soda a few times in NY. It definitely helped but n it did not get the smell out completely unfortunately. We did It a few days in a row too. Not fun...
