Hi everyone,So Brembo is actually 15 weeks as of TODAY!! My aunt has a miniature Poodle named Nala who is extremely smart, outgoing, and well pampered.
Some background -- Brembo has been to his 1st puppy class and did OK. DIdn't bark or bite any other dogs. He has never had another dog enter the house to this point.
So my Aunt came over with my uncle and their son to see our new house and meet the dog. They came by around 8:30pm right after Brembo had eaten. This also happens to be the time when Brembo usually gets riled up (or so I've experienced in the past week and a half).
I take Brembo outside to pee/poop as they pull up. He immediately sees my Uncle and instead of peeing, goes over to say hi. We make sure to make all family introductions before bringing Nala out.
Note: this entire interaction took place outside.
So Nala gets out of the car and my Aunt immediately takes her over to sniff Brembo's butt. Brembo is fine with this, but when he realizes there is a new dog behind him, he gets super excited and turns to run at Nala. This pretty much scares the crap out of Nala, who is usually outgoing, dominant, and a general sweetheart.
Basically, because Nala is hesitant and my Aunt is controlling her, she won't really let Brembo go near her because every time Brembo tries to advance, Nala retreats. As I am sitting there, restraining Brembo (who is getting REALLY strong at only 14wks), he starts barking and squirming, desperately trying to get out of my grasp so he can pounce and play (I hope that's what he would have done) with Nala. I keep commanding him to sit and he obeys, but only for a short while until he's back up and moving.
We bring them both in the house and I immediately crate Brembo in the dining room. My Aunt takes Nala in the dining room to sniff around and Brembo gets really excited/irritated/upset/interested (i don't really know), and starts barking and chewing on his cage. He's borderline throwing a tantrum as i keep trying to remove his mouth from his cage and he ends of biting me.He never got to get up close to Nala to sniff her butt or play nicely, as he was too aggressive the entire time for Nala or my Aunt to 'wait and see what happens'.
....So what's going on here? Was it the time of night, as he usually is already upbeat around then? Was it the presence of a new dog in HIS house? Was he just super pumped up?
I don't know what to do. I wanted to impress my Aunt as I've been working hard with Brembo (her dog is very well trained). I feel that we made a poor impression and the sheer weight and size advantage that Brembo had made everyone uncomfortable that he would unintentionally hurt Nala.
Do i need to be practicing the down/sit/stay commands more thoroughly?
Today after work, I am having my good friend bring his dog by to see what happens. This friend won't be intimidated and his dog is much larger, so we'll see what happens. Do you guys think this is an okay idea?
Thanks for your suggestions, and sorry for the long read!! I like to be thorough. :D..and here's a pic of the big/little guy!!
