Bella
Today Bella went back for her dental cleaning and tooth extractions. I adopted her two weeks ago and she had had an unrepaired broken jaw (car?) that had healed incorrectly. The vet called and said the trauma was greater than they previously thought and now she is being referred to a specialist. We have an appointment on the 23rd. The vet said that there was a pocket in the roof of her mouth filled with debris (and feathers!!). She came from an animal hoarding situation. They cleaned it out ,but didn't close it up till the specialist looked at it. I'm very lucky, the wonderful people at Operation Kindness where I adopted her are taking care of all of the expenses.

My poor baby!! They said she was slow coming out of anesthesia, which I guess is normal for a bulldog? Has anyone else had extensive dental work done on their bulldog? What should I expect etc.... I'm picking her up tomorrow. They will be sending her home with pain meds, Rimadyl

Oh my!! Poor Bella :( I'm so glad she's getting the medical attention she needs now. I hope & pray it's nothing serious & she can start healing up. Honestly anesthesia is dangerous for bullies... They tend to wake right up & that's when the critical hours commence. Are they gonna have to put her under again for that pocket? Prayers to you both! When you pick her up - most importantly just let her rest, and stay on top of her meds so the pain isn't too bad. She will likely be loopy & not herself - don't let that scare you, it's the meds. Just keep her cozy, warm, etc.
Tyson hasn't had dental work but he's been under twice & post op is scary. We slept on the floor with him for the first few days. I hardly slept. Please let us know how she is tomorrow! Give her lots of hugs from me & Ty!

Thank you, Yes, she'll have to go under anesthesia again. The vet originally wanted to have the specialist see her this week, but since she was having a hard time with the anesthesia, they pushed it out to the 23rd of March. They had put her under on 2-20 as well for the spaying surgery. So, on the 23rd will be the 3rd time in a little over a month. I'm worried sick....I'll be glad when all this is behind us. Thanks for the encouragement! GEDC1682.jpg

What a sweetie!!! I pray that this operation goes well, that the doctors make wise and skillful decisions, and that your little Bella comes through it wonderfully with NO complications! I can imagine how many "what ifs" are going through your mind. We also pray that you are comforted as you go through this with her. We will have you both in our hearts our thoughts tomorrow.

Joining with all in the sincere prayers on y'all's behalf.
Sending you strength, comfort & courage to get thru
these long hours. GOD has your back in this and His
hands guiding these Surgeon's hands, they sound like
a very knowledgeable & skilled team (see, GOD's been
providing), please update on Bella when you can <3

I have no experience with a dental cleaning, but am sending you and Bella LOTS of prayers and positive thoughts it all goes well

Thanks everyone!! I picked Bella up this afternoon, she was soooooo happy!!!! She has 5 days of pain meds and they seem to be working, lol She is turning her head away when I pet her, so I've been careful just to rub her back and tummy. I know her mouth must be sore even with the meds. She's alert and we took a very short walk just to let her potty. She's snoozing away right now. The staff said she looks so much better, just after two weeks. Her coat is filling in. I've been adding fish oil to her food. I think it's going to take awhile for her to really accept this is her new home. I was worried about taking her back to the shelter for her dental work, didn't want her to think she was going back!!!! It's a wonderful no kill private shelter and the staff is wonderful. She is getting excellent care.

She's been thru so much. The 1st shelter in Central texas when she was rescued from the hoarding situation, then the trip to Operation Kindness, in Carrollton TX. Who knows how long she was in the hoarding situation...kept in a tiny cage. She now has a HUGE bed with toys, blankets and an extra pillow to elevate her head...

This is such wonderful news. Yeay Bella :) Let that baby just rest & relax - its what she needs right now to heal up! I love to hear of dogs living the life they deserve - she knows she has a good home now!

wendyk313 - How did Bella do through the night?

Bella is doing ok....she is sleeping a lot tho.. she absolutly refuses to walk..even next door. She'll potty then trot right back to the door. Poor baby, she just doesn't feel good. She did have a short burst of being playful, but then back to sleep. She has 2 more days on the pain meds. She is eating good, tho..which is good. Soft foods of course, which she will need to remain on atleast till after her next appointment. Thanks for checking in on us!!

Re: Bella's Dental Surgery

There are a lot of drugs available in the market for the pet's who have undergone dental surgery. Different pets react differently to the drugs, so it is advisable to only give your pet drug's as suggested by the vet. All the periodontists at orthodontics los angeles take good care of the teeth after undergoing a dental surgery.
