Help Needed! Bald spots on my 15 week old baby :( What is the cause?

Hi,
My 15 week old baby bully named Ogre started popping up with small bald spots in various places of his body.
Attached are some pictures of the spots. He has 1 on the left side of his face, the outside of his rear right leg, and the inside of his front right leg. He also has one right above his ear but i didn't get a pic of that one.


The spot on his front leg first appeared as a dark spot but then began to bald.
The spot on his rear leg and the spot above his ear first looked like mosquito bites but then started to bald.
The spot on his face just seemed to pop up out of nowhere but maybe I missed it with being caught up in his cuteness!
They all look to have some dark small specks (possibly dried blood) in his pores.
He is still happy as ever and doesnt seemed phased by them, aside from scratching his cheek seldomly, but I want my buddy to be healthy and don't want to assume they will just go away.

I am planning on going to the vet next week but I wanted to ask you all prior to going just to see if it could be something that didn't require vet attention, or if there was anything I should ask when I do visit the vet.

From your experience, do these spots look like they could be hot spots, allergies, or parasites?? Is there a home remedy?


Any help or recommendations are welcomed and much appreciated. Thanks for your time!

When you take Ogre to the vet-he may want to do a skin scraping. He may possibly have mange-there are two kinds-one is hereditary(genetic), one is not. One can be cured, the other can not-but it can be controlled. It also could be a flea allergy-have you checked for fleas? Could be food allergy........... Someone else here will probably have some more ideas.............

Just so you know....every puppy is a carrier of mange. Most little ones have a immune system to overpower it. Some don't. Vegas did not. When something stressful happens, it can take over. Demodex mange is the one Vegas had. It took awhile for it to go away.....but it finally did. My MIL thought I dropped bleach on Vegas.

He is still quite young to have allergy symptoms, so a scraping is in order when you go to see the vet. But still...what are you feeding him? If there is too much fillers and s'''t in his food it can cause this as well.

At 15 weeks of age I would definitely go to the vet for those. Also what kind of food are you feeding? Good food is very important in having a strong immune system. Let us know what you find out, hugs to you both

I agree with the others, need to be scrapped. Plus a good quality food will help.

Those look similar to the spots Sheldon had but we had gone to the vet and had a scraping done to rule out Demodex mange because he had that when he was younger but when they did the scraping they didn't find any parasites so I figured it was skin related and started putting Salmon oil on his food and now he has a soft beautiful shiny coat, but the first step is the vet getting that scraping done that is important, getting the right food is also key these dogs can be very finicky when it comes to food what works for one may not work for another. What protein is in his food? Some Bullies have a sensitivity to chicken.

Pickle has the same thing, we took her to the vet and got a scraping done. She has Demodex mange, like everyone said as the puppy gets older and the immune system gets stronger and will prevent the spots in the furture. Vet gave me a ointment to put on the spots and they slowly dissappeared.

Thank you all for the replies! I will take him in to the vet asap for the scraping.
As for food, he is currently on Science Diet Puppy but over the past week or so I have been switching him over to Royal Canin Bulldog Puppy formula. I've heard mixed feedback on both of these foods but when I tried switching him to Blue Buffalo he had the WORST diarrhea. I took him to the vet (Bulldog specialist Dr. Sunbury in Austin, TX) and Dr. Sunbury said they see this A LOT with Blue Buffalo and that it most likely has too much protein for Ogre's little tummy.
He recommended to put him back on Science Diet and maybe try out Royal Canin Bulldog formula when he was regular again. Ogre's tummy is doing great now, but now he is getting these little spots
Could this be related to the food?

and definitely NOT for bullies. Vets do not get much if any, nutrition training.
Go to Forums and read the many great articles on Nutrition. There is also a food
ratings guide, very informative! Bullies need GRAIN FREE and many are also
sensitive to white potato, sweet potato not so much. Chicken is great raw but
some are sensitive to chemically treated chicken (fish too). The best thing you
can do for Ogre is put him on a great diet to build his immune system to optimum
levels to PREVENT illness not treat them as they happen. Pests & parasites are

Thanks for the advice Carol. I am heading up to the store to find a good grain free food.
In defense of my Vet Dr. sunbury (bulldog specialist) it was a different vet at his office that recommended the royal canin...I guess I should've waited to speak to him personally about the food.

Before I joined this site Vegas had spots like that and open sores. A good food change, changed all that for him Natures Variety Instinct, Salmon. But I would still get a scrape.

Try the Fromm puppy formula for now....then switch to one of the grain frees when he's older. A good percentage of the people here use Fromm.

When Franklin was younger I tried to put him on Fromm puppy gold and blue buffalo he had bad bad and now he's on Fromm grain free pork & peas he was just on the beef frittata but his tear stains were bad I think it was the white potato but he's doing good on the pork & peas good soft coat and his tear stains look to be getting better to good luck hope you find a good food
