I'm glad for the 2nd opinion. FYI I was told that overly wet eyes is a sign of dry eye.
I had no idea!! Thanks for that info!

I have been struggling with Jakeās red eyes. It is not getting better. It has been 5 months now and I have taken him to different doctors and eye specialist. He is been using different ointments and takin meds and cytosine for allergy. Optomologisy keeps trying different drops every month. He has been on Neo/Poly for so long now. I do not see any change with any medicine. Has anyone experienced red eyes for this long? My poor baby is always scratching or trying to rub his eyes. I have to constantly watch him. Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated. We are getting one. I talked in a previous post about Orion's eye. We took her in and I really wasn't happy with the Dr. I actually called the clinic and voiced my concern. When I called the clinic to schedule the initial appointment, I told them all her symptoms and what I thought could be happening..entropion. So, he took her into the back room and did a dye test. He came back in...said her eye doesn't have any scratches. She just had inflammation. I asked if her eyelashes could be causing it and he said.."if it were her eyelashes, it would be scratching her eye...she has no scratches. I can't verify entropion..but you can take her to a specialist and have them look closer."
That was it. He gave me some neo/poly/dex and sent me out the door. A week later, she still is having problems. So, I called the clinic and let them know how irritated I was with the lack of concern for Orion.
Anyways, I called a different clinic. This is the clinic Orion was born in. The owner is very well informed will bulldogs and is even listed online as a good bulldog vet with the Bulldog Club of the Greater Seattle. I would have stuck with this clinic, but Vegas was in need of a 24 hour clinic. Anyways...I called and left a message and they called my back in 10 minutes. The dr informed me that I should stop using the neo/poly/dex for the sole reason..if she has an ulcer, the steriod part of the med can make it worse. So until we see her at 2pm on Saturday..Orion will just be using the lubricating gel. They told me that they will look at her and Dr. Kate (Dr. Larsen's daughter) said she should be able to diagnose her if possible. She helped me more in 5 minutes than the other dr did the whole time I was there.
You say you've been to an eye specialist and meds were prescribed but have not mentioned what the diagnosis is. Did the specialist give a definitive diagnosis? If not, you need a new, better eye specialist.I have been struggling with Jakeās red eyes. It is not getting better. Last year during first visit, he had ulcers and entropionthat time neo/poly/hydro was prescribed with one more drop in addition to the Lubricant. For entropion she said no surgery needed And his eyes got better and all went to normal then we moved from suburb to city and after a month noticed jake rubbing his eyes all the time and redness. Thatās when they said no ulcers, entropion and said letās try few different drops and it may be allergies but no diagnosis. Tried the drops no change. Then went again after 2 months and couldnāt find anything either, changed the drops again (tried immunity suppressant drops along with neo/poly again but no change. Took to a vet. They also checked and asked to follow up with optomologist and didnāt find anything. Jake take epiquol and cytoplint point. Meds daily and injection once a month. But no improvement. Shall I try another vet or eye speacialist? Shall I also ask them to do blood test in case itās caused by something else? Thank youYou say you've been to an eye specialist and meds were prescribed but have not mentioned what the diagnosis is. Did the specialist give a definitive diagnosis? He may have ulcers, distichia, entropion, chronic dry-eye, inflammation from environmental allergy, a latent/elusive/resistant infection, etc.
I hate it when Vets prescribe medications without a diagnosis. Try a different specialist...one that comes highly recommended by a local Bulldog group/club. You have nothing to lose by getting a CBC...except $.Last year during first visit, he had ulcers and entropionthat time neo/poly/hydro was prescribed with one more drop in addition to the Lubricant. I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes. I was allergic to 2 of the 3 prescribed antibiotic drops. It's not so uncommon for people, I'm told. Could it also happen with canines? Hmmm...
Yup my Jake⦠About 2 months ish ago he had laser surgery for his eyelashes. Had my vet check him this time cause the other one simply gave drops n that never worked. My vet finally was back n went straight to him. He saw 2 lashes pin size needle during the examination. Jakeās eye was always red n watering non stop. While surgery he removed 7 eyelashes that you couldnāt see unless under. Totally worked as Jakeās eyes are not red nor leaking.I have been struggling with Jakeās red eyes. It is not getting better. Thatās great, thank you for sharing. I am happy to hear that your Jakeās eyes are back to normal. I have booked an appoinmtmwny with a different specialist and a vet, who specializes in bulldogs treatment. Hopefully between these two, I get the right treatment.Yup my Jake⦠About 2 months ish ago he had laser surgery for his eyelashes.
