Obnoxious prices?

We live in a condo complex. A neighbor in one of the buildings down the street was asking how Chubbs' eye was (cherry eye). One is the same, not bad but a little red. The other is getting worse. This is the new one, the one he got after playing with his 2 uncles (Goldens). She willingly provided the money she spent on both eye surgery & spay for her bully, $4k & $700!!!!! Is that normal??? It just seems crazy to me. Thx!

HOLY COW.... 4k for one eye or both? And $700 for a spay seems really high, to me. Now, keep in mind, Banks was done 8 yrs ago and I think it was about 300$... I'll have to look at records when I get home

That sounds pretty high to me. I am not sure how much eye procedures cost. Sounds like puppy Lasic (?sp) surgery.


The most costly of any procedure is the anesthesia. Bentley's umbilical hernia procedure cost us $90.00 but would have been $500 with anesthesia. We were lucky as the vet waived the anesthesia cost for us.

Several months ago, one of mine had entropion surgery on both eyes, and was spayed at the same time, and the bill was $262.00 total.

We just got back from the vet. He has to get surgery done asap. He's damaged his eyes so badly even the white of his right eye & eye lashes are going! I'm gonna cry.

OH NO... don;t cry --- he will be fine! it is best that you caught it early and it can be fixed.

Thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. Not sure what cherry eye surgery cost by me but at my vet a bully spay is $750.

$4K is SCANDALOUS! If that was really what she paid she should report that vet, that's absurd. Where did she have this done Saudi Arabia?

Like Christine said you caught it early and he will feel like a million bucks once it's fixed, you're not going to be charged even remotely close to that.

We got Goob neutered in 2011 and it was 175.00...I pray your little guy heals quickly.

Here in San Francisco and surrounding areas, you can expect to pay $2500 per eye for cherry eye surgery. Lola's spay was close to $600 and she was only 6 months old when it was done. Leo was neutered at 5 months old and because he had a testicle that had not descended , they had to get it through the abdomen wall. Cost of his neuter was $1800. I guess it depends where you live.

What do they need to do to the white of his eye? You say 'it is going'. . And just confirmation... Your going to a different vet than the other person, right?
