Seems like he is doing it out of habit or he's bored. You might try to say no and redirect his attention when he does it and eventually he may get the idea.

What a gorgeous sweetie! I'd be interested to know what a professional behaviorist thinks about it. It's not hurting anything - and excercising his tongue; I suppose that's a worthwhile hobby - but I am curious as can be. I've seen Bo do something like that a few times. Thanks, he is the bestest dog ever ..imho. and, if you it looks long there -- you should see it after some wrestling... it has to be like a foot long.

Never thought of asking a behavioralist.. not sure why I didn't, just never ocurred to me. As for the couch, it is 11 years old and all the credit goes to the b/f - he bought it before we moved in together.

Loved the video of him just sitting on the arm of the couch. Is there any chance that his has something in his mouth that he's trying to get rid of? His licking reminds me of when you put peanut butter on the roof of their mouths and they just lick and lick and lick. He's so handsome too!!
