Bear
I know I haven't posted in a great while but I need some help with Bear. I posted a while back about him losing a few patches of hair last fall. He was put on antibiotics and special shampoo. All went away. Well he started having the same problem in April. It has gotten out of hand:

He gets small areas of scabbing, the best I can describe what it is, like hard pieces of skin and you can just easily pull the hair out and leaves his skin raw. My husband seems to think it is stress related. The vet thinks its hormonal. He did skin tests to no avail. The shampoo isn't working now.

Bear was on Fromm but two weeks ago I changed him to Taste of the Wild. The vet suggested we wait 6-8 weeks before he does any hormonal testing since it may take that long to see if it was his food. He said it could be a testosterone issue and Bear may need to be neutered. Something I don't want to have done. I am waiting for the breeder to get back to me on this. I was told by her that his blood line had no problems and he is in a champion blood line. UGHHHHHHHH. I just want him to feel better

Does anyone have any experience with this? Any advice?

So sorry for your baby. I would google nzymes and see if that would help. I personally would try raw food also.

Oh my goodness he looks very uncomfortable....is there a vet dermatologist in your area? I would seek out a specialist or get a second, third opinion from a general vet. Omega 3 and 6 and biotin supplements may help restore some hair but until the underlying problem is found I fear it would just reoccur....I'm sure others will be along soon with more ideas....I hope Bear feels better soon.

I'm on my phone so can't type much but I'm thinking this dog needs some immune boosting as well. Fish oil, probiotics n such. I'm not good with skin stuff so let me call in some people. Poor Bear. Have you tried allergy testing as well? Maybe it is an allergic reaction maybe? I too would look for a specialist I think. Give him a hug for me. ;)

I notice his face is bright pink also. First of all, I would start by keeping him out of the heat and sun. Only potty breaks. It almost looks like a staph infection and should be on some immune building foods. Yogurt meals should help. How's his poops?
I would also give him a hard boilded egg every day. After shampooing, rinse him with the Mother Apple Cider vinegar 1/4 vinegar to 3/4 water. This should ballance his ph level on his skin. And last but not least, check around for another vet. Has the vet you have now seen him like this? And the raw idea is a good one. So is the allergy testing. The shape he's in right now, he's suseptable to just about anything. I feel very bad for him. I can't imagine him having any energy. Please keep me posted. Please

Tyson had this exact same thing and like Sherry said it was a staph infection. If that is the case, he needs so antibiotics asap and then some serious supplements to help his immune system. This worked miracles for Tyson

I would get him to another vet or dermatologist. As Sherry and dozersmama said it may be a staph infection, and he needs some antibiotics asap. I would follow the instructions Sherry has said and get to another vet soon.

The gang is all on it.... staph infection.... very strong antibiotics for about 3 weeks will clear him up,,, it is caused by a weakened immune system

I have advice! Tank was the same way when we got him. We give him acidophilus pearls 1x per day year round. You can just try those for ten days if that's all that's necessary to clear him up. Put some plain yogurt on his food. 2 tbspoons or so. Feed raw or Taste of The Wild or Figure out which food your dog does the best on. Order Nu Vet Vitamins. Give two Benedryl up to three times per day (tank only has two per day) vinegar is your friend. Put some in his bath water. After a tank took one round of antibiotics, I got the above advice from a vet tech online and Tank is beautiful!

First off..I love me some Bear Butt. 2nd...are you sure it's not mange? Has he been tested for that? I've never seen staph, but I'd take the advice from the givers above. Kisses to Bear from his soul mate, O.

I was thinking demodectic mange. That is what max looked like when he had it. And along the top line was where it was the worst.

This is onr of two things, skins allergies, or it is actually a fungus that grows on the skin..when you pull the clumps of hair do you ever see what looks like black dandruff? If so he needs antibiotics to clear that up. My Libby gets it once a year for some reason.

do we have an update on this? any news? mammyglicks
