Hi all

I hope you can help. my 10 year old male bully has - what I think - is seasonal flank alopecia. He has never had it before and he is losing so much hair in patches. The older patches do seem to be growing back but I am at a loss as to what to do to help him. He is not bothered by it at all. My vet hasn't been much help. Just wants to charge us an large amount of money for tests. Any help or advice would be so appreciated.

Seasonal flank alopecia would only be on sides and fur doesn’t come out in clumps it sort sheds off and a skin patch appears . I’m thinking it could be a staph infection… do small scabs appear when fur falls off? I’d hav a skin scrape done to confirm. If it is that, then a 4-6 weeks of antibiotics will be needed and you need to boost his immune system— probiotics like refrigerated sauerkraut (fork full each meal) or raw goats milk about 1/4 cup. He most likely has an allergy that is causing the weakened immune system…. What food/protein do you feed?
