Kevin has been having some problems with his paws (one of many things). He currently eats a diet of beef. He’s been on it for about 4 months so I don’t think it’s that. They are so red and swollen. I did try to clean them and used NuStock but it made them so much worse. He’s struggling to do the stairs because of how sore they are. Does anyone have any tips? Or know what could be causing it?

Maybe it's the beef? I don't give my dog a lot of beef and I know some EB are allergic to it. Maybe switching him to a different high quality not beef or chicken or anything with potatoes. And maybe soak in warm Epsom salts

When you ay beef... is it raw or kibble? Beef can be a hot meat for some dogs... i would switch to a turkey or duck based meal

Connie, what province/territory are you? Ontario? As you know we’ve had horrible weather. One thing comes to mind is long periods outside or even salt to melt snow. And like Christine mentioned, raw or kibble beef?

I will try to get him in the bath to do an Epsom salt soak. This has been a little more ongoing than just now but I did notice it got really bad the last few days. We have had him on almost all meats so I don’t think it’s the meat and I do feed raw.

Now that you say that I did take him for a walk right before it happened that it was so bad he didn’t want to walk. It’s a bit better now but they are still really red and swollen as you can see from the pics. I do feed raw. It’s just beef and beef liver or pancreas I can’t remember which one. I was being very specific when I picked out this food because I wanted to eliminate everything but one meat. It’s been an ongoing issue with his whole body and in ways I am thinking it’s better and in others I am thinking we aren’t making any progress.

It’s raw. I have eliminated all other forms of everything. We had tried turkey but I switched because I found there were veggies in it. It’s hard to find just the meat and organ for them without anything else in it. I’m not sure that it’s diet related and I am giving him quercetin with bromelian as well as an omega oil. I also have noticed the rawness around his mouth and in between his eyes. I will have to wipe them and put some cream on them.

Some veggies are good to have .. do you include bones and egg in the mixture?

If you’re going to feed her a raw diet, make sure the ratio of the meal is balanced as she will be missing out on certain minerals n her gut health will always be struggling. Example a balanced meal would be: 80% protein, 10% of organs, 5% blood, 5% bones.

Btw, Quercetin a great product and don’t forget a can of sardines with bones per week

Are you rinsing off his paws after walks outdoors?

Are you washing and rinsing his paws after walks outdoors? Lots of stuff can get caught in the hair between the toes, mold spores and such. Do you shave the hair between the toes?

I have had same problems with my bulldogs and have had some heartbreaking experiences. The solution is to wash their feet morning and evening with a soap called malaseb. It takes about 2 weeks before you see a difference and starts clearing up after a month. Then I usually maintain their upkeep by doing 4 times weekly. If you get infection as well, do Malaseb and then 2 hours later spray with F10. It really works, I am only sad that I found out the hard way
