Mass on spleen .....SO scary!

Hi, we just found out yesterday our five-year-old girl has a mass on her spleen ---our wonder-bull vet did an ultrasound an estimates it's about
2-3 cm around. In HIS words, "small is usually okay, but hers is "medium" sized....and larger is usually bad news". He's going to call us today to
discuss what to do. I was NOT going to google until we talked to him today, but I did.....

It turns out the mass could rupture at any time, and she would hemorrhage to death. THAT is scary! I knew the spleen was a very vascular organ,
and, as the vet said---there's no way to BIOPSY it---it has to be removed. I just scrolled through about 10 pages in this forum, and haven't seen
a post about this yet. Please tell me everything and anything you know, and I hope NONE of you have lost one of your furbabies from a sudden rupture!

I'm so sorry to hear this, I've never heard of it, so I sadly have no information to share. I just want to say I'm thinking of you and your girl<3 Googling is rarely a good idea, it puts thoughts in ones head Let us know what the vet says, hope you'll get good news soon

Your dog can live without a spleen. Unfortunately,in my case, my 4 year old Frenchie did not survive. After having ultra sounds, the vets decided that her spleen was enlarge, and pressing on her liver. When they operated on her, her spleen and liver were covered in tumors,so there was no chance for her to survive. It was devastating,and unexpected-even to her doctors. If your baby and you are more fortunate,they can remove her spleen,and she will do okay. I am sorry I can not give you a more hopeful answer. Praying for a much better outcome for you all. @TooTooMommy Please let us know how things turn out,

I never encountered this problem with my dogs, but as I am a MD, know a lot of cases about people who had their spleen removed after car crashes. If it is not bad tumour, and most probably it is nothing bad, just vascular growth, they call it hemangioma, your baby will be perfectly healthy after spleen removal. Usually this is not a very difficult surgery. So, if your doc says it is better to remove, then remove it and forget about it! All the best to you and your precious furball!

Chumly had his spleen removed about 6 months before he died (which was caused by CHF, NOT the spleen removal). One day I noticed he looked a bit bloated so took him to the vet who examined him and immediately sent me to a specialist Animal Hosp as an emergency. They thought he had hermangiosarcoma and recommended surgery to remove the spleen as it could have ruptured any moment. I was terrified as he was about 12 yrs old. He came through the operation fine and the biopsy showed it was not the cancer. A huge relief. He really had no problems after the surgery and was his old self until he passed away from Heart failure.

A friend in the UK is going through the same thing with their Pyrenean. He is about 10 yrs old and they have elected not to do the surgery.

I do hope everything goes well for your girl. Let us know what happens please.

Thank you for all your prayers, etc! Sophie's doing fine; the two different vets we took her to both want to wait and
monitor it via ultrasound. They are both great vets; one of them is an EXTREMELY good bulldog specialist--both are
not in any hurry to remove it---yet---I read a lot of websites that talk about them rupturing and the doggie hemorrhages to death---one of the vets said "stop googling!" Thanks again! **woof!**
