Harlea 5/4/13 - 8/25/22
Ok little Miss Harlea has an issue. I noticed last night before we we did our nightly cleaning ritual that she was scooting her butt a bit on the floor. I looked her over at that time but didn't see anything and went about our wipe down process and nothing appeared out of the ordinary. This morning she scooted her butt again and I looked over her again and didn't see anything right away. I turned on the big light in the room and bam there it was. She has what appears to be an ingrown hair on the edge of her lady parts.

Sorry for the poor pic it was tough trying to snap it while she was being ms. wiggle butt. I know how to treat cysts and ingrown hairs on paws and other parts of the body, but I am not to sure how I should go about treating this. Do I just use warn Epsom salt compresses or is there something else I should try? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I dont have any advice, I just hope Harlea feels better soon.

Oh Todd, I'm brain dead today but will think about it and hopefully, someone
will have ideas. Since she can't lick off meds, I'd put Neosporin (w/anesthic)
on it to reduce the infection and it may clear up w/no further problem. Other
than that, have Vet pull the hair? Praying for Baby Girl to get better!

No problem Carol. I totally understand. Maybe desertskybulldogs or Davidh will have an idea.

Gosh Todd, I have NO idea on this one… I'm stumped as well. Hopefully someone will help you with this, just sending my support. Please keep us posted!!!

It's cool Tracey. I will figure it out. I am researching it now anyhow. A lot of sites to fknd the hair yourself and pull it but I am not comfortable doing that because of where it is and how much she squirms.

Maybe a warm compress will help the hair come to the surface?

This is great advice if you can do it, you hold her or your wife hold her and then the other try to get it out. I'm sorry she's going through this, I never knew bully girls could get these!

Sorry, been gone all day. I think the warm compress will help them see if you can pull it out. Also sometimes scooting on the floor also means their anal glands needs expressed.

Yeah I thought it was her glands as well but I checked those and they appear normal and there is no fishy smell from her rear. She was going to have those expressed this weekend when she goes to the puppy parlor anyhow. I will try the compress and see how it goes.

warm compress is all i can think of too..... ouch! that has to be painful

good luck with getting it to break the skin and he feeling better

I was able to get a good look with a magnifying glass tonight and while I can see a single hair looking closer at the swelling I think she may have a uti as well so I am going to take her to the vet as soon as I can tomorrow. Can I give her some 100% cranberry juice in the mean time?

Once the infection is there the cranberry does not do anything... it is a preventative :(

It was worth a shot.
