Ike and the hip xrays

Good Morning All,

Took Ike to the Vet last night. He needed to get his vaccines and have his toe re-bandaged. Also had his hips x-ray for dysplasia. the Vet came back said one one side he is showing tendency to develop it. He said he can easily correct this before the onset by doing surgery and making a cut on the pelvic bone. Slowing the growth of the front while bone heals and the back continues to grow. the surgery will correct his hips and is not very evasive. The Vet has done this many times before and has great experience with bullies. We still sent the xrays to another specialist for a second opinion.

Worried about my boy. He is 4 months old and 32 pounds now. Here is picture, of him sleeping(only way to get a decent picture of him)

Any thoughts or comments has anyone went through this surgery before?

I would certainly get that second opinion without saying what the first opinion was. What a bummer to hear this at such a young age . But I would be skeptical before putting my bully under surgery. Heck I would probably want a third opinion.

ive never had this with sarah so no help but to say your ike is very cute and i hope it all works out ok. im sure someone will be along soon to help

Oh no, poor guy. He's so young to have that potential kind of problem with his hip. I will be wishing him all the best and lots of love sent his way, yours too.

We were told something very similar with Banks at the age of around 6 months... we did not do anything surgical. We keep her weight under control, and cive glucosamine. She is 7 years old and has no issues with her legs/hips. Occasional limping, but nothing our vet sees as any concern. We do have Laser Therpy Treatments done for her once a month due to her fused vertabre which they do the hip while she is there.... that helps her a lot.

Get second, third and fourth opinions before you decide what is best.

I really would get all the vet. opinions you can before your precious Ike has surgery. I've got to say that some vets. feel the need to "fix" everything, especially on Bulldogs!
