We have had Guinness for many years and have changed food many times with very limited side effects and never any staining. The last week I don't know what happened to him but he's having brownish red eye discharge which is staining his white face around his eyes and in the tier grooves of his face. In his year is dark brown and red and also under his nose rope. I have never seen this before I don't know what it is. We changed his food approximately three weeks ago due to him getting excessive yeast in his left ear. The first two weeks on the food was no problems then all of a sudden this issue started to occur almost overnight. Not sure if it is related to the food, because I think if it was it would've happened as soon as we changed the food. I went out and bought a different brand food yesterday and in slowly working him to see if it was a food issue. He gets bottled water and no treats besides ice cubes and pineapple. It's kind of freakin me out. Like that bleeding Virgin mother statue.

Here r a few pics, but this is after a good baby wipe cleaning. His left side is the worst and only his left ear is getting the dark red gunk. Matches almost same color as eye discharge. And previous to this he always had excessive wax then yeast in his left ear only. And for those of you that know Guinness he has never had tear stain issue. And not sure why under his nose rose would be brown red stain also

It's allergy time right now, I'd give him a couple of Benadryls and see if those help.

Someone said looks like a bad yeast infection. Especially since it's that's dark red stain under nose rope .

Wally looks exactly the same… he has a lot of tear staining because he has distichia and he will need to have surgery for it very soon. I would clean the area w/duoxo pads or witch hazel on a cotton pad, and as Phil stated the benadryl should help.

I was thinking yeast.... did you does the new food have white potato in it? Try to avoid that if possible -- Banks had yeast issues and once I changed over to Pork and Peas, it cleared up SOME, and I also added a tablespoon of greek plain yogurt to help too

I will have to check. This damn dog will be the death of me....and my paycheck lol. Bet appt will be made for tomorrow or Friday.

This is the new food we have him on. 6 star rating on here, that's why I picked it up. Here's the label

Wellness care ocean was the one he was just on. Prior to that with all the original yeast in his ear was the blue wilderness chicken

I see potato is 3rd on ingredients which means there is a lot in there. I tagged Lisa and Ellie to help, but with the others top ingredients being meal... I would not think this was all that great of a food.

Do you think we should re-examine our food rating website? I got this suggestion from there and it is listed as a six star?

I was going to say check dogfoodadvisor.com :D Also, I am not that great on the labels, so I tagged Lisa and Ellie as they are both amazing at understanding this stuff.

Tyson's face looks like this at times, I don't think its yeast unless you can smell it... with us its mostly environmental since we have him on raw now. We did have yeast issues with his face & paws a while back, but let me tell you - you could smell the difference & the yeast causes inflammation. I'm thinking that you should take him down to a single protein diet, with limited ingredients as a trial. Nature's Variety has one that is very limited.

Has no grain, eggs, chicken, beef, fish, dairy - if he does well on this then you know it could be food related. It stinks with food, we went through at least 8 or 9 foods - this one was truly the best for him. His faced cleared up .... not 100% but definite improvement. We ended up having to go with raw bc of belly issues, not related to allergies. But just a thought... when you're experimenting with food you have to go as basic as possible, then slowly start introducing new things one at a time to figure out if that's the culprit or not - allergy wise.
