HELP!! My bully gets sore after he plays.

Hello! My bully is a year and a half and everytime he plays he gets so sore he yelps. For example our friend came over with his dogs yesterday and they played for about an hour.. he was so sore afterwards he couldn't walk up the stairs or hop up on the bed & when I went to help him up he yelped. We gently pulled on his legs and massaged his joints to see where the pain was coming from but we cant seem to find the source. We have been giving him hip and joint treats since he was a pup but this seems a little fishy.. hes still a pup and I don't think he should be getting that sore after he plays? ThoughtS??

Hi Chanelle! I've had the same thing in the past with Jersey. It went away on it's own and I can't say for sure what it was. She would yelp after playing, going for a walk or sometimes just when she would stand up after lying down. It never lasted long, maybe 15 minutes or so and she would be fine. The vet seemed to think it was related to her hips and she would grow out of it which she did. One thing that helped was to lift her hind end off the ground slightly while she was standing, (just stand behind him and place your hands underneath his hips and lift gently). I hope this helps!!

Hello, Chanelle, I'm sorry to hear this with Romulan (are you a Trekkie?).

It sounds suspicious to me, have you had a bully experienced Vet do a
though exam of him yet...taking x-rays? If not, please consider doing so,
he could be in significant pain as bullies are very stoic & hide pain well.
Could be a degenerative condition or arthritis needing meds to control it.
Supplements do not always work on certain issues, please keep us updated.

My first thought is hip dyspasia or luxating patella so I'm thinking that Carol may be right here, a visit to your Vet and X-rays will help figure out what's up. A veterinary Orthopedic specialist may be in order. I'm hoping that Jersey is correct and it's something that will take care of itself in time.

I would have him checked by your vet just to be sure nothing serious is going on. It could be 'growing pains' but it is best to rule out any issues --- please keep us posted

Hello! Sorry it took me so long to reply.
We took him to the vet a few times actually, after a course of anti-inflammatory it wasn't getting better so we took him back for xrays and when we got there the vet did an examination on Rom, checked his range of motion, spine etc and felt it was not necessary for xrays and the only thing we could do is "wait until it got worse" to pinpoint exactly where the pain was coming from so they can do xrays accordingly.. anyways luckily it ended up going away on its own and he is doing much better!! thanks everyone for your replys and advice
