Hi all! I've been unable to get an answer from the rescue we adopted Luna from regarding when her flea and tick are due along with her heartworm meds.

Is it okay if I give her the typical monthly dose if I'm not sure?

I know she's been in their care since at least June 6th. But I don't know when or if she was on it previous to that. I live in Vermont and have an indoor cat so I really, really don't want to mess with fleas/ticks/mosquitos.

Thanks!

I personally use the mix below n never had any issues.

FOR TICKS/FLEAS

14 oz of Witch Hazel. (Or you can also use 1/2 of WH)
12 drops of Lavender
15 drops of Citronella
15 drops of Lemongrass
Put all in a spray bottle and shake.

Here’s some links if you’re interested the holistic way... now don’t forget it always boils down to what the owner wants for their pets. I personally don’t go with ticks, fleas n deworming anymore. All chemicals. Maintenance is the key word. Never wait for something to happen. If you can maintain your dog with a good balance diet that’s grain free, a couple of good 1st press oils etc etc you’re on the right track. Now if it’s a life or death of course go to the vet immediately. But if you maintain on regular basis, you’ll see less of a vet.

Give her monthly dose. It’s no problem at all. For fleas and ticks I personally prefer Bravecto, it’s once in 3 months tablet.

The Rescue group should have provided you with complete medical records and where/who treated that bulldog prior to placement. Call them, email them, send a letter. Get those records. Did they give you any info regarding a rabies shot? You will need that...not just a tag.
FWIW, overlapping a few days for flea and tic treatment will not hurt a thing. Same can be said for Heartworm prevention. We use Nexgard.

great info from the gang.... since you have cats, avoid topic flea/tick meds. Use the Bravecto or Nexguard as they are a chewable.

Helene gave tons of natural options as well.

We got most of her records (including the rabies and the spay) but the rescue owner is really dealing with a lot right now.

I’ve got Nexguard and Heartguard from the vet which I know she’s been on before. Thanks all!
