Hello,
My boy Fury needs your help, please.

He has folds under his eyes that get wet from his tears - it seems to be bothering him more lately.

We try to wipe and keep these folds dry throughout the day but it is harder while at work.

Right now - in between the folds, his skin is irritated/raw and was bleeding a little bit. It breaks my heart!

1) Is there anything we can put on this area to help heal or soothe the irritated skin? - maybe something similar to a baby diaper rash or something…

2) Is there anything else I can put in between these folds to help keep the area dry? — Like Goldbond?

I am hoping to not do surgery but the vet did mention his hair on eyelids is scratching his eyes which makes him tear… not sure of the actual medical term. But allergies will make it even worse at times.

3.) Do you think eyelid surgery is necessary? Not sure if anyone has experienced this before. I don’t want to put him under anesthesia.

4.) Lastly - Is there anything you recommend to help with irritated paws? It is a bit pink/red in between toes and paw pads. Sometimes he tries to bite at his paws and it gets even more irritated.

We tried Benedryl and also wash paws often but it doesn’t seem to go away. We also changed his food.

Eyelid surgery isn’t the issue according to the photos. Don’t really see droppy lids. Can simply be eyelashes sticking out which gives leaky eyes n drips into to folds. Jake had his lashes done. He had 7 of them sticking out.

We tried raw diet but he did not like it so we do Zignature kibble with beef liver dust topping.

His waterline that has little hairs looks like it is rubbing against his eye. So that is when the vet recommended eyelid surgery.

My question is what are you feeding him?

Did your vet put this bright yellow liquid drops in his eyes to see if there’s any eye lashes sticking out n eliminate specific eye issues?

Oddly he prefers cooked meat over raw Some steak or ribeye he will eat raw but everything else we tried is not even touched.

No drops were ever used but I do feel like taking him to a new vet for that to be done. Thank you for suggesting. I will look into it.

Poor Boy!

For irritated wrinkles I highly recommend Natural Dog Company Wrinkle balm, it soothes irritated raw, moist wrinkles, even if they are not moist I find it really helps heal the wrinkles.
My dogs eyes water from allergies and ingrown eyelashes(eye lashes are growing inside his eye rubbing his eyeball basically, which can be plucked sometimes which my dog has had that done but they grow back no matter what unfortunately), the only thing that helps with the irritated eyes from allergies and eyelash irritating eyes is Eye Stream which is a human wash that is safe to use on dogs(the vet dermatologist and my regular vet said this and it really helps rinse out any allergens and irritation, and also apparently if you do put the eye wash in the eyes, it can stop the irritation from ingrown eyelashes which help prevent cornea scratching from the ingrown eyelashes). FYI all this info is from my vet cause I have the same issue with my dog.

But the Natural dog company wrinkle balm is very good for the wrinkles, I have been using it since I had my dog as a puppy, his wrinkles are either dry, or they are wet from irritation in eyes and it has been the only thing that actually helps heal the wrinkles and any folds that I have tried. I use it daily for my dog for maintenance/preventative(twice a day if his wrinkles are irritated).



Is the eyelashes ingrown? Like are they on the inside of the eye rubbing on the eyeball? Or is it something different??


For his itchy/irritated paws:

You can put Adored Beast Owies Oopsies spray which helps heal the sores or wounds.

Washing his paws with a itchy dog shampoo helps wash all allergens off his paws too. What do his paws look like?

You can also give him a supplement which is a natural version of Benadryl without the side effects of Benadryl, the supplement is called Bovine Colostrum, it’s very good for the immune system and allergies.
I use the Four Leaf Rover Bovine Colostrum for my dog cause his allergies are so bad, however with diet and the bovine colostrum and 1 bath a week, no allergy issues(knock on wood).

If you give the bovine colostrum, it works best if you give it 30 minutes before you feed him Breakfast cause it works best on a empty stomach(so no food/treats before breakfast, bovine colostrum powder by itself in the dish without food the dogs usually lick it up and then you can feed him breakfast after 30 minutes after the colostrum, apparently cause of how it’s absorbed on empty stomach it works better).
It’s great for environmental allergies.

Berries are also very good for watery eyes, that also has helped my dogs watery eyes, the antioxidants really help with the tearing, so you can give blueberries as a treat.

The diet is really the best way to address allergies in my experience, rotating proteins no matter if it’s kibble or not cause it prevents the dog from becoming allergic to what they eat everyday, that’s how allergies start in the first place.

Raw diet is best, but if you can’t or don’t want to feed raw other food foods you can try is Carna 4 oven baked kibble, it has probiotics in it, and it’s oven baked and no synthetic vitamins, which is all good. Orijen and Acana and Natures Logic are also good kibbles.

Carna 4 comes in goat, venison, fish, lamb and duck for proteins, which is great for allergies. Doesn’t use synthetic vitamins.

Natures logic comes in sardine, rabbit, lamb, pork and beef for proteins, and doesn’t use synthetic vitamins.

Do you rotate proteins now with his food?
Which proteins do you feed?
Did you say it’s Zignature brand?

Omega 3 are also good for inflammation too. Like sardines, salmon, herring and others.

If your gut says “go to another vet,” you do that. Listen to your gut its talking to you for a reason. Try to find a bully vet. Others might guide you better as I’m not in the USA. Simply mention area you live in n others will key in.

Regarding food, if he likes cook meals by all means go for it. Better than kibbles. Or stat adding toppings to the kibbles like raw organs.

Imagine eyelashes rubbing your eyes, 24/7. Painful and damaging to the eye. Buster had to have entropion surgery 4 days after we got him but the damage was already done. Scarring on his eye. He does not have droopy eyes. A few months later he bumped it, ruptured the eye and had to have a corneal graft. $$$$! My firm opinion is never take chances with the eyes!
I would take him to a Veterinary Ophthalmologist for an expert opinion. Good luck.

If he has distichia or entropion then he needs the surgery to correct that before it's allowed to perforate or do permanent damage to the cornea. I would seek help from an eye specialist that is also very familiar with general anesthesia and Bulldogs. We have seen MANY eye surgery screw-ups by non-specialist Vets.

Oddy - short for Odysseus, our 8-year-old bullie has the usual build-up in the nose fold. We first used Vaseline because it repels moisture. It works and is safe if other dogs lick it, but is messy. Our dog sitter suggested another remedy which works quickly and effectively. It is called Fucidin cream. She kindly gave us a tube and it seems to last forever.

Hi Taylor - we have had the issue for TBone's whole life (4 yrs). The folds were crusted, raw skin and had to clean everyday, sometimes more. Used baby wipes and other drying antifungal, antibacterial. The vet gave us some wipes, called Chlorfx for between his toes and ears. We were told some of the same things you have heard, all bulldogs have the problem, the eyelashes - have surgery, some rare eye disease. We finally bit the bullet and had him tested for allergies. (least invasive) He is allergic to chicken (which is in everything), corn and other common dog food ingredients. I tried every supplement I could find, natural etc. We put him on the Science Diet D/D (dry) immediately after we got the results back from the lab. And we got the serum (3) vials for allergies. He has been into the shots for 283 days and on a monthly shot now. In addition to the allergies, he has an underactive thyroid which we have an RX for the medication. I found it cheaper on Chewy than what the vet charged. I gave him the shots while the dosage was low, 0.1 ML. But he sensed my anxiety, and we take him to the vet for higher doses. AND his folds below his eye no longer get crusted, raw or bleed. He still has some "booger eye" in his eyes only - but no drainage. I understand exactly what you are going through. The vet said to give him Zyrtec twice a day now for the itchy feet. Even once a day made him drowsy. Like a bulldog needs another reason to sleep all day. The cost for the testing and serum was approx $470. Our vet accepted a Care Credit Card for payment. We were at a loss, but now we are pleased with the results. I have to order his maintenance dose today - will post the cost of the vial.

My last EBD,, Bruizer,, had entropion ( in-grown eyelashe),, was an easy-peasy surgery and fixed him 100% ! Just imagine having a foreign object in your eye 24 - 7 - 365,, not good

Did the ingrown eyelashes grow back?

My vet has plucked them all(he had 8 in 1 eye and then 5 in the other eye). The vet plucked ALL of them, eyes were much better then they grew back in less than 1-2 months, he only has 6 total that grew back that are there right now, they tried plucking them while he is awake but they are too thin for the tweezers and the vet told us that the only way to truly get rid of them for good is that to go to vet eye specialist for him and they would have to use a laser around all the ingrown eyelashes so they won’t grow back, but if we don’t go there for laser then the vet said the ingrown eyelashes will just grow back, might not be immediately coming back but definitely a 95% chance they will grow back eventually.


Did you have to see a eye specialist? Did your regular vet just pluck them and sedate him??

How long did the ingrown eyelash surgery take?

Did they do laser therapy on it to get rid of it for good?

Just curious cause I don’t really want to take him to a eye specialist just for ingrown eyelashes if my vet can pluck them possibly?
