Hi everyone, new to this site and I have 2 awesome English bulldogs. One is as healthy as can be and the other has had some health issues. The one has had the soft palate and mares surgery done back in the summer and we were hoping I.T would help with her breathing problems. Unfortunately she has been hacking up a lung lately and seems like she’s dry heaving a lot. Has anyone else had this surgery done and if so, was I.T a one time thing or did you have to have I.T done multiple times? I live in jersey and unfortunately the place we were referred to for the surgery left us very disappointed and we are very hesitant to ever use them again. Does anyone have any recommendations on a vet on the east coast, by the jersey area that is well know. For this surgery and or a vet that does this surgery using the laser scalpel method?? Thanks for any help

Matt

Hi, I have been reading through all of the elongated palate threads. My vet who owns two bulldogs of his own said during our second meeting with him when Crabcake was 12 weeks old that he was going to have to get the surgery at some point and said that he would almost certainly not be a very active bulldog. I would say the opposite has been quite the case, he is undersized at 38 lbs and his favorite thing to do is to play with two german shepherds in my apartment complex. Other than birth complications, he has been remarkably healthy in the first year and three months that we have been together. He is exceptionally playful, has a ton of energy (when we go to the dogpark he is the only dog that doesnt relax at some point), and is just the sweetest boy to every person or dog. Despite the normal bulldog noises, I rarely have seen him gasp for air unless he has a long session of playing with other dogs or people, and almost never snores. I am frankly scared to death to put him under surgery, and since my vet has not pressed this point to me in over 6 months despite taking him in once a month for doggy spa and checkup. I have not brought up the question to him. Is this something I should press for so that he gets the surgery earlier in life, or monitor his health and attitude to see if anything changes?
