Duchess went to the eye specialist today and it has been confirmed she has dishchiosis. The eye specialist was great and I was referred to her through a few people in my raw co-op. She has been an eye doctor for animals for 35 years. the specialist also says that she has very mild medial entropian. She said that at this point she does not recommend treating the medial entropian as it is not causing discomfort and no lashes are touching and it is very minor and only on the inner most corner of the eyes. As far as the distichiasis duchess has it in both eyes and on all four lids. The left eye doesn't bother her but the right eye does. Fortunately she does not have any scratches or ulcers on her eyes. She was prescribed neo-poly dex. The Doctor recommended the cryo surgery and said 60% of the time it doesn't need to be re-treated. I asked if I should wait until she get old to do the procedure to see if more protrude and she said I can but risk more damage due to the fact that she is so young and her right eye muscle is constantly pulling the eye in due to irritation. So ill be moving forward in the next couple weeks I just have to work out my schedule. The dr said it is a one day procedure no overnight stay and no cone of shame. My questions is since she will be going under and I know there's certain anesthetic that bulldogs don't do good with, what is the "safe" way for them to go under? The dr said she uses Atropine for pre anesthetic , and combination of ketamine and diazapam as a sedative. The anesthia she uses is sevoflurane. Is this all safe for bulldogs? She said its a pretty easy procedure but it's still worrisome.
