I was curious if anyone has experience with herpesvirus. I’ve been dealing with what I thought and my vet thought was an ulcer in her eye. However, the ophthalmologist diagnosed herpes which is apparently very rare in dogs. So I was curious if anyone had experience with this. My dog is over 10 and first time there has been an outbreak.

No, have not heard about that. Hope your dog is ok - have they been able to treat the ulcer?

I have no experience, but oscarmayer or Manydogs might have some insight

No knowledge here...I hope his recovery is quick.
GL!

I think Herpes is not curable, but can be controlled. Also, wear surgical gloves as I believe it may be contagious.Has he been near any other animals, where he could have caught it?

we are working with the ophthalmologist..... slowly looking a little better in the eye, but the drops required may be causing other issues.... so it’s a process. We go back next week to see what next steps are...

Correct. Not curable, manageable, but also apparently quite difficult to manage in certain situations. I was assured by my general vet and the specialist that it cannot pass between species and I do not have other dogs so we are safe.
