My old guy has an open ulcerated sore in his nose rope. I noticed a bit of blood a few days ago when cleaning him and this is what I found. He's almost 10 and haven't seen anything like this on him before. It's been a few days now and I've gently cleaned it and applied Animax but it's not getting any better and may even be a bit bigger. I'll make a vet appointment today, but wondered if anyone has dealt with something like this before?

I’d have a vet confirm it isn’t anything to worry about, after that… clean with witch hazel and apply desitin to keep dry, as needed

NuStock. Jake use to have some till I put him on full raw. Added NeStock in them folds and never came back. But I also did make a point on daily basis to always take a dry paper towel to keep them folds dry
I agree with the other replies but would like to ask, do you apply a little coconut oil regularly. The inner nose can dry very easily on bracchy breeds and little irritants, especially if like Freya when she doing her sniffy sniffs outside she produces and drips a lot of snot, can lead to some bleeding and occasionally infection, a regular swab with a tiny amount helps prevent that.
As you mentioned going to the vets is the thing to do, I just thought it might be worth mentioning. Perhaps others will disagree but I’ve always found it beneficial.

Sadly my last Bulldog, Nyala passed last year. (Age) But like most know me on this forum I’m more on the holistic side and raw diets. I never go to vets and I have a fantastic one too. Unless it’s an emergency or getting them fix I’ll go see my vet, but skin conditions, no. After decades owning dogs and 3 EB, these 3 are basically the ones that got me going using more with essential oils. I realized skin conditions are curable if you know what you’re doing. Then yrs later, bought NuStock as a member mentioned @Manydogs totally fixed most skin conditions we see on our dogs. Hotspots, Staph, scabs, gunk etc etc. and it regrows the hair! My vet also uses it on his horses šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Jake always had his nose rope wet, very red and smelly. I used to use coconut oil but he ended up licking his face. NuStock is also natural . I would only use it inside the rope, not outside cause he would have licked it. Jake loved his food. For yeasty ears infected, I use Oil of Oregano (OOO). Mother Nature’s antibiotic. I personally use it also if sore throat starts. Gone within a day or 2. I mix it with 2oz of fractionated coconut oil and one full dropper of OOO. I actually cleaned my German Shepherd’s ears yesterday cause she tends to get that one one yeasty. She’s always outside playing in the snow and moisture stays in. GS are known for ear issues but the mixture keeps it clean.

Photo is Jake, as you see his nose is very healthy and no leaking eyes either cause of a raw diet.

I've heard of NuStock, but never used it, one for the memory bank, as well as the Oregano oil, is (ooo) purity?

I’m sorry i didn’t realise , I hope I haven’t upset you! Jake is gorgeous bless him. Aren’t bullies just the most adorable fur balls ever! ā¤ļø

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am going to add NuStock, Oil of Oregano and Coconut oil to Wilbur's skin care routine going forward. For the current issue, vet suggested neo-predef powder and that seems to be helping. But I do prefer natural treatments whenever possible so your suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks! Do you use the OOO & cocunut oil only on the exterior of the yeasty ear or in the ear canal as well?

Inside, right ABOVE where the Canal STARTS. Oil will seep in on its own. If it’s a really bad deep ear infection, I add a bit more of the Fractionated Coconut Oil and go pass a bit deeper. Massage the ears for a minute. OOO stings, so always make sure it’s shaken very well. Again I’ve been doing this for decades and know my oils. Why I’ll give ā€œonlyā€ certain mixture recipes to others. All pet owners should still get the diagnosis from their vets and determine whether they want the holistic approach or meds. Definitely some meds are crucial. If it’s a life or death situation, šŸ’Æ get the meds. Oils is a bit longer treatment and why maintenance is needed for prevention.

In a nutshell, if a dog has regular maintenance, they’ll see less of a vet.

being in the UK, you should be able to get your hands on whitewinkle a lot easier and cheaper than us in the US. It's my go-to

One for the memory bank Benny, just received the NuStock £38 :( what price is it in the US?

The white winkle is a zinc oxide powder.
The 350g Christmas deal cost me over $225 usd after tariffs kicked in. 😭
